KWES-TV (channel 9) is a television station licensed to Odessa, Texas, United States, serving the Permian Basin area as an affiliate of NBC. The station is owned by Tegna Inc. and maintains studios on West County Road 127 near the Midland International Air and Space Port, between Odessa and Midland; its transmitter is located near Notrees, Texas. Channel 9 in west Texas signed on as KVKM-TV from Monahans, Texas, in 1958. A small ABC affiliate, the station was a relatively minor player in the regional television market. Very high frequency (VHF) is the ITU designation for the range of radio frequency electromagnetic waves ( radio waves) from 30 to 300 megahertz (MHz), with corresponding wavelengths of ten meters to one meter. KVLF is a radio station at 1240 AM in Alpine, Texas. It is owned by Alpine Radio, LLC. History KVLF received its license in 1947. It was owned by Big Bend Broadcasting and broadcast on 1490 kHz until 1948. In 1958, Gene Hendryx bought KVLF from Jack W. Hawkins and Barney W. Hubbs; the station increased its daytime power to 1,000 watts in 1960 and its nighttime power to the same in 1997. In 2015, Gene R. The 1961 Sun Bowl was a college football postseason bowl game between the Villanova Wildcats and the Wichita Shockers (now known as Wichita State). Background Wichita was the champion of the Missouri Valley Conference for the fourth time in seven years. Monahans is a city in and the county seat of Ward County, Texas, United States. A very small portion of the city extends into Winkler County. The population was 6,953 at the 2010 census. In 2018, the population was estimated at 7,669.
