KUUL (101.3 FM, "101-3 KISS FM") is an American commercial Top 40 (CHR) radio station serving the Quad Cities area. They are owned by iHeartMedia, Inc. with studios located in Davenport, Iowa, and a transmitter located near Port Byron, Illinois. History Early history (1976-1998) The station began life in February 1976 as WEMO ("EMO" standing for East Moline) and playing adult contemporary music. The station was owned by Upper Rock Island County Holding Corp. In November 1978, the station was sold to BJM Broadcasting, and the station adopted a country format, with the call letters WZZC. The format change took effect December 3, 1978, and during this time, the station also featured local high school and college sports, as well as St. Louis Cardinals games. The station was also known for sponsoring country music concerts at Palmer Auditorium in Davenport, Iowa; the first show featured Donna Fargo and Tom T. Hall, and comedian George Lindsey. History The Davenport allocation for 103.7 FM – representing the second FM station in the Quad Cities – dates to October 1948, when the station signed on as WOC-FM, a companion to its AM sister station, WOC (1420 AM). The station was owned by the Palmer family, a well-known Quad Cities family that started the Palmer College of Chiropractic. As with most FM radio stations in the 1950s and 1960s, WOC-FM played mostly easy listening and classical music. KMXG (96.1 FM, "Mix 96") is a commercial radio station licensed to Clinton, Iowa, and serving the Quad Cities area of Iowa and Illinois. It broadcasts an adult contemporary radio format, switching to Christmas music from mid-November until the Christmas holidays. KMXG is owned by iHeartMedia, Inc., with studios and offices in Davenport, Iowa, along with co-owned KUUL-FM, WLLR-FM, KCQQ-FM, WFXN and WOC. KCQQ (106.5 FM, “Big 106.5”) is a radio station licensed to Davenport, Iowa with a classic hits format. The station broadcasts with a power of 100,000 watts from a transmitter located in rural Scott County near LeClaire. KCQQ is owned by iHeartMedia, Inc., with studios located in Davenport. WOC (AM)
WOC (1420 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station, licensed to Davenport, Iowa, and serving the Quad Cities of Iowa and Illinois. WOC is owned by iHeartMedia, Inc. It broadcasts a talk radio format, under the slogan "The Quad Cities News Leader." Its studios are located at 3535 East Kimberly Road in Davenport (along with co-owned KCQQ, KMXG, KUUL, WFXN and WLLR-FM). Its transmitter is located at an antenna farm in Bettendorf, Iowa, near the campus of Scott Community College. (WOC is the only remaining AM station at this site, as all the other transmitters are for FM radio or television.) WOC broadcasts with 5,000 watts with a directional signal to avoid interfering with other stations on 1420 kHz.
