KTON (940 AM)
KTON (940 AM) was a radio station in Belton, Texas, United States, serving the Killeen–Temple area. The station's broadcast license was most recently held by JLF Communications, LLP. Prior to shut down, it was a simulcast of KTFW-FM 92.1 in Glen Rose, Texas. In March 2009, the Commission learned that the station fell silent on December 30, 2008, when the owner of the transmitter site seized control of the transmitter and dismantled the station's broadcast towers after KTON failed to make required rent payments. The station formally notified the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) that they had fallen silent on March 9, 2009. The station applied to the FCC for special temporary authority to remain silent which was then granted. An application to change the station's frequency to 950 kHz and the city of license to Kaufman, Texas, was submitted in July 2009. Cameron is a city in Milam County, Texas, United States. Its population was 5,306 at the 2020 census. It is the county seat of Milam County. Geography Cameron is located at (30.854544, –96.978716). KTON (1330 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station broadcasting a sports radio format. Licensed to Cameron, Texas, United States, the station is owned by Milam Broadcasting Company. KTON simulcasts AM 1660 KRZI in Waco. Programming is also heard on an FM translator station, 100.9 K265DV in Temple. KTON and KRZI are affiliated with ESPN Radio. Kaufman, Texas
Kaufman is a city in, and the county seat of, Kaufman County, in the State of Texas, USA. Its population was 6,797 at the 2020 census. History Kaufman was founded as "Kings Fort", named after Dr. William P. King, who established the fort in 1840 after purchasing of land where the city is now located. The community was renamed "Kingsboro" after five years of growth. In 1852, Kingsboro was renamed "Kaufman" after the newly formed Kaufman County, which in turn was named after David S. Kaufman. Special Temporary Authority (STA) in U.S. broadcast law is a type of broadcast license which temporarily allows a broadcast station to operate outside of its normal technical or legal parameters. In the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) station database (CDBS), broadcast STA applications have a prefix of BSTA (general), BLSTA (legal), BESTA (engineering), or BLESTA (both). STAs can also be issued for other telecommunication services under FCC regulation. Often an STA is necessary due to an unforeseen event.
