James Loper
James Leaders Loper (September 4, 1931 – July 8, 2013) was an American television executive who co-founded KCET in 1964 and served as Executive Director of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences from 1983 to 1999. Life and career Loper was born to John Loper and Ellen Leaders in Phoenix, Arizona, on September 4, 1931. He obtained a bachelor's degree in journalism from Arizona State University in 1953, where he was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity. He earned his master's degree from the University of Denver in 1957. He moved to Los Angeles, California, in 1959 to begin his doctoral studies at the University of Southern California (USC), which he finished in 1967. He then taught as a faculty member at USC.
