KTCX (102.5 FM) is an urban contemporary formatted radio station in Beaumont, Texas. It serves the entire Golden Triangle and is owned by Cumulus Media. The station's studios are located on South Eleventh Street in Beaumont, and its transmitter is located between Beaumont and Fannett. KTCX "Magic 102.5" was launched on December 3, 1998 based on its current format. Because it is the market's only Urban-formatted station of any kind, it plays a variety of Hip Hop, R&B, Soul, Old School, and Gospel music to cater to all African American demographics including the Mainstream audience to the Adult audience, thus making it one of the highest rated stations (sometimes #1) in the Triangle. KAYD-FM (101.7 MHz; "KD 101.7") is a radio station broadcasting a country music format. Licensed to Silsbee, Texas, United States, the station serves the Beaumont-Port Arthur area. The station is currently owned by Cumulus Media. Its studios are located on South Eleventh Street in Beaumont and its transmitter is located in Vidor, Texas. Fannett, Texas
Fannett is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Jefferson County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,363 at the 2020 census. It is about southwest of Beaumont and is part of the Beaumont–Port Arthur metropolitan area. History The community is named after B. J. Fannett, a local landowner who opened a general store there in the 1890s. When Japanese immigrants brought rice farming to the area, Fannett grew to meet the farmers' needs. In 1993 and again in 2004, Fannett was the center of a controversy over the naming of Jap Road (now Boondocks Road). The road had been named in the early 20th century in reference to the immigrant rice farmer Yoshio Mayumi. However, as social awareness increased over time, it became clear that the name was never meant to honor Mayumi and had always been an ethnic slur. Urban adult contemporary, often abbreviated as urban AC or UAC, (also known as adult R&B,) is the name for a format of radio music, similar to an urban contemporary format. Radio stations using this format usually would not have hip hop music on their playlists, and generally include some mix of contemporary R&B and traditional R&B (while urban oldies stations emphasize only the latter). Urban adult contemporary playlists generally consist of many different genres that originated amongst Black Americans including R&B, soul, funk, disco, jazz, pop, hip-hop, electro, quiet storm, gospel, new jack swing, and hip-hop soul.
