KSLP
KSLT (107.1 MHz), is a radio station licensed to Spearfish, South Dakota, United States, serving Rapid City, South Dakota and the surrounding region with a Christian adult contemporary format. The station is currently owned by the University of Northwestern – St. Paul. On October 24, 2011 KSLT moved from 107.3 FM to 107.1 FM. An asset purchase agreement filed with the FCC on October 29, 2021 says Northwestern Media is buying KLMP/88.3 (Rapid City, South Dakota) and KSLT/107.1 (Spearfish-Rapid City, South Dakota) from Bethesda Christian Broadcasting for $249,000. The deal also includes KSLT satellites KSLP/90.3 (Pierre, South Dakota) and KSLS/90.7 (Dickinson, North Dakota) and boosters KLMP-1/KSLT-1 in Rapid City and translator K292DN in Newcastle, Wyoming. Northwestern Media is the Christian radio ministry of the University of Northwestern – St. Paul, an evangelical university in Roseville, Minnesota. Pierre ( ) is the capital city of the U.S. state of South Dakota and the county seat of Hughes County. As of the 2020 census, its population was 14,091. Spearfish (Lakota: ''Hočhápȟe'') is a city in Lawrence County, South Dakota, United States. The population was 12,193 at the 2020 census, and was estimated to be 13,282 in 2023, making it the 11th most populous city in South Dakota. Spearfish is the largest city in Lawrence County and the home of Black Hills State University. History Before the Black Hills Gold Rush of 1876, the area was used by Native Americans (primarily bands of Sioux but others also ranged through the area). Once the gold rush started, the city was founded in 1876 at the mouth of Spearfish Canyon, and was originally called Queen City. Spearfish grew as a supplier of foodstuffs to the mining camps in the hills. Even today, a significant amount of truck farming and market gardening still occurs in the vicinity.
