KABI (AM)
KABI (1560 AM broadcasting, AM) is a radio station licensed to Abilene, Kansas, broadcasting a classic hits format. The station first went on the air in 1963, broadcasting from the lowest level of the Sunflower Hotel in downtown Abilene. Wyman Schnepp was the original owner and general manager. His wife Willa was its first engineer. Schnepp only had ownership for 4 years before he sold KABI to Norton Warner, of Lincoln, Nebraska, in 1967. J.K. Vanier and Jerry Hinrikus (EBC Radio) of Salina, Kansas, bought KABI and its sister FM, KSAJ, in late 1991. Then in January 2004 Morris Communications (MCC Radio) acquired KABI as part of a 6-station group purchase from EBC. KTPK (106.9 FM broadcasting, FM) is a radio station broadcasting a classic country format and is branded as "Country 106.9". The station is located in Topeka, Kansas, where it is licensed. The station is owned by Alpha Media. History KTPK signed on its country format in 1974. In 1997, Kansas Capital Broadcasting, which also owned KTKA-TV, bought the station. They made several changes like broadcasting Kansas State University football and basketball games until 2005, adopted the name "Twister 106.9" in 1998, and then "K-Country" in 2002. K-15 is a north–south state highway in the U.S. State of Kansas. Originating at the Oklahoma state line as a continuation of State Highway 18 and continuing to the Nebraska state line where it continues as Nebraska Highway 15. Throughout Kansas, it is signed as the Eisenhower Memorial Highway due to its route through Abilene, where the Eisenhower Memorial Museum and Library is located.
