KRTR-FM
KRTR-FM (96.3 Hertz, MHz, "Krater 96") is a hot adult contemporary music formatted radio station serving Honolulu, Honolulu, Hawaii. The SummitMedia outlet broadcasts with an ERP of 74 kW and is licensed to Kailua, Hawaii. The station's studios are located in Downtown Honolulu and its transmitter is located east of Diamond Head, Hawaii. History KRTR signed on as KSHO on October 31, 1978, as a soft jazz outlet with the call letters KSHO. Its sister station at the time was Jazz powerhouse KKGO FM Los Angeles. Every year the stations would broadcast live from the Monterey jazz festival. In 1984 KSHO changed to KRTR and the station format changed from smooth jazz to adult contemporary using a "Drake Chenault" directed music format. By 2003 in radio, 2003 they would evolve to an Adult Top 40 direction after Cox acquired the station. By 2010 it returned to a Mainstream AC direction. KPRP (AM)
KPRP (650 AM) is a non-commercial educational radio station licensed to Honolulu, Hawaii, United States, which serves the Honolulu metropolitan area. It is currently owned by SummitMedia, LLC, pending a donation to the Raleigh-Wake Chapter of the National Alumni Association of Shaw University. What was KPRP started as KPOA on 630 kHz in 1946 as the fourth radio station in Honolulu, with programming including popular disc jockeys. The station was known as KORL from 1960 to 1988, airing various music and talk formats; this run ended with the station filing for bankruptcy and going off the air for several years. It returned to broadcasting in 1992 as KHNR, an all-news and later news/talk radio station. After then-owner Salem Communications traded two of its AM stations for an FM in Honolulu, the format was changed to easy listening music as KRTR.
