KRCM
KRCM (1380 AM) is a terrestrial AM radio station, licensed to Shenandoah, Texas. The station broadcasts a Spanish Religious format as "Radio Vida 1380" and is owned by Daij Media, LLC. History KRCM originated in Beaumont, Texas as KPBX in 1947. During the 1950s and 1960s, KRCM was known as KJET, a blues and R&B station. It was the only black station in Beaumont. Johnny Winter said that he "spent hours each day listening to KJET" and it heavily influenced his music styles. KMIC (1590 AM) is an English language South Asian music and spoken word formatted broadcast radio station licensed to Houston, Texas, serving the Greater Houston area. The station, which began broadcasting in 1947, is owned and operated by DAIJ Media. KMIC is also licensed by the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to broadcast in the HD (hybrid) format; however, was turned off in 2012. Translators History Beginnings as KATL This station began as KATL on 1590 kHz in 1947 and is the sixth-oldest surviving station licensed in the Houston area. The station launch was postponed by engineering problems. KATL went on the air at 6 p.m. on May 12, under special authority since it hadn't received its official license. KDEI
KDEI "Radio Maria" is an AM broadcasting station airing Catholic programming at 1250 kHz in Port Arthur, Texas. It is a repeater station of KJMJ 580 kHz in Alexandria, Louisiana. History In Brownsville KDEI's history begins not in Port Arthur but in Brownsville, on the Mexican border, where KWWG was authorized on 1080 kHz in 1925. The next year, it moved to 1260 kHz in a time-share with KRGV, which broadcast from Weslaco. The station was owned by the Chamber of Commerce and the City of Brownsville and by the '' Brownsville Herald'' newspaper after 1930. Violent storms hit south Texas in August 1933, leaving KWWG out of commission. When the station applied for renewal of its license, it also sought to be sold to Port Arthur College, which planned to move the station to Port Arthur.
