KQIS (AM)
KQIS (1340 kHz) is an AM radio station licensed to serve the community of Bethel Heights, Arkansas. The station is owned by Perry Publishing and Broadcasting, through licensee Perry Broadcasting of Arkansas, Inc. It airs an urban contemporary format. History KBRS The station signed on the air on September 10, 1949, under the call sign KBRS licensed in Springdale, featuring programming from the ABC Radio Network as well as St. Louis Cardinals baseball and Arkansas Razorbacks college games. The station in its later years ran a MOR format, and later adult contemporary in the mid-1980s. KBRS ceased operations in May 1992 following a license revoke. KFMD & KQIS After two decades of the frequency being off-the-air, the station relaunched under a different license location and assigned the call sign KFMD by the Federal Communications Commission on December 13, 2012. Bethel Heights, Arkansas
Bethel Heights was a city in Benton County, Arkansas, Benton County, Arkansas, United States. Always a small, sparsely populated community, the region coalesced around a school named Bethel in the late 19th century but did not incorporate until 1967 to avoid annexation by larger neighboring communities. The town offered police and fire protection and wastewater service to residents, but sent students to Springdale Public Schools and purchased water from Springdale Water Utilities. By the 21st century, Northwest Arkansas was gaining population rapidly, and Bethel Heights reincorporated as a city and grew from a population of 714 in 2000 United States Census, 2000 to 2,372 at the 2010 United States Census, 2010 census. Urban contemporary music, also known as urban music, urban pop, or just simply urban, is a music radio format. The term was coined by New York radio DJ Frankie Crocker in the early to mid-1970s as a synonym for Black music. Urban contemporary radio stations feature a playlist made up entirely of Black genres such as R&B, pop rap, quiet storm, urban adult contemporary and hip hop; Latin music such as Latin pop, Chicano R&B and Chicano rap; and Caribbean music such as reggae and soca. Shiloh Museum Of Ozark History
The Shiloh Museum of Ozark History, located in Springdale, Arkansas, is a regional history museum covering the Arkansas Ozarks. Programs, exhibits, and events relating to Ozark and Northwest Arkansas history are offered by the museum to the public.
