KPBS Public Media is a not-for-profit organization licensed to San Diego State University (SDSU) with three sections: * KPBS (TV), a television station (channel 15) * KPBS-FM, a radio station (89.5) * KPBS-Digital, a news website Journalism hub In 2018, KPBS held discussions with CapRadio, KQED in San Francisco, and KPCC in Pasadena to form a "journalist hub", following a recent initiative of NPR to deepen collaboration between NPR and member stations on journalism, fundraising and digital platforms. As the stations expand their work together, they aim to "have less redundancy in our coverage and more proficiency", according to Joe Barr, chief content officer at CapRadio. The stations want to report on state-wide events collectively instead of duplicating efforts, for example when reporting on state's wildfires. Founded in 1897, it is the third-oldest university and southernmost in the 23-member California State University (CSU) system. It is owned by San Diego State University (SDSU) as part of KPBS Public Media, and is a sister station to PBS member KPBS-TV (channel 15). CapRadio (Capital Public Radio) is the public radio service of California State University, Sacramento. It consists of two full-power stations and five repeaters, all members of National Public Radio. It is the NPR member for Sacramento and much of the surrounding area, including Stockton, California, Stockton and Modesto, California, Modesto. The group is headquartered on Folsom Boulevard on the Sacramento State campus. CapRadio also operates North State Public Radio serving the northern Sacramento Valley, and KHSU serving the North Coast, under operating agreements. Stations KXJZ (90.9 FM) in Sacramento airs news and talk programming from NPR, as well as jazz and blues programming on weekends. KQED-FM (88.5 MHz) is a listener-supported, non-commercial public radio station in San Francisco, California. It is simulcast on KQEI-FM (89.3 MHz) in the Sacramento metropolitan area. The parent organization is KQED Inc., which also owns two PBS member television stations: KQED (channel 9) and KQEH (channel 54). Studios are on Mariposa Street in the Mission District of San Francisco. KQED-FM is grandfathered at an unusually high effective radiated power (ERP) of 110,000 watts. The transmitter is along Radio Road, atop San Bruno Mountain, in Brisbane. KQEI-FM has an ERP of 3,300 watts, with its tower on Sorento Road in Elverta. KPCC itself is primarily serving Greater Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley; through rebroadcating and translator stations, KPCC's programming also reaches the Santa Barbara, Coachella Valley, Palm Springs, and Ventura County, California areas, and part of the Inland Empire area. The station is owned by Pasadena City College and operated by the American Public Media Group's Southern California Public Radio (SCPR), in addition to serving as an affiliate for National Public Radio and Public Radio Exchange. Institute For Nonprofit News
The Institute for Nonprofit News (INN) is a non-profit consortium of nonprofit journalism organizations. The organization promotes nonprofit investigative and public service journalism. INN facilitates collaborations between member organizations, provides training in best-practices and fundraising, and provides back-office services. History INN was founded as the Investigative News Network in 2009 at a summer conference held at the Pocantico Center in New York with journalists from the Center for Public Integrity and the Center for Investigative Reporting, among other newer organizations. The result of that conference was the Pocantico Declaration with the intent to share resources and collaborate on projects. Two papers in 2010 described a trend in news media where watchdog journalism was being done increasingly outside of mainstream newsrooms.
