KPA (basketball)
Kenya Ports Authority, commonly known as KPA, is a basketball club based in Mombasa, Kenya. Owned by the Kenya Ports Authority corporation, the team is nicknamed the "Dockers", and is the most decorated team in basketball as it has won a record nine KBF Premier League championships. The team plays its home games in the KPA Makande Gymnasium. KPA made its debut in international competition during the 2002 FIBA Africa Clubs Champions Cup, and lost its six games in the competition. KBF Premier League
The KBF Premier League, also known as the KBF National Basketball Classic League, is the premier basketball league for clubs in Kenya. The league currently consist out of twelve teams. The most successful team in the history of the league is KPA with nine national championships. The champions of the KBF Premier League are eligible to play in the qualifying rounds of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). The league was established in 1987 and has been won by seven different clubs since then. The FIBA Africa Basketball League (formerly named the FIBA Africa Clubs Champions Cup) was the highest caliber men's professional basketball competition for clubs until 2020, organized by the FIBA Africa and played by the champions of the leagues of the African countries. The league was replaced by the Basketball Africa League (BAL) from 2020. History The competition was founded in 1971. A year later, in 1972, Hit Trésor SC won the inaugural championship. 2020 BAL Qualifying Tournaments
The 2020 BAL Qualifying Tournaments were the inaugural qualifying tournaments of the Basketball Africa League (BAL), the newly launched premier basketball league of Africa jointly organized by the NBA and FIBA. While the NBA will co-organise from the regular season, the qualifiers are completely organised by FIBA Africa. A total of 31 teams from 31 countries participate in the qualifying tournaments in order to determine which six teams will play in the 2020 BAL regular season, along with six directly placed six teams.
