Gering, Nebraska
Gering is a city in and the county seat of Scotts Bluff County, Nebraska, United States, in the Panhandle region of the state. The population was 8,564 at the 2020 census, making it the 17th most populous city in Nebraska. History Gering was officially founded on March 7, 1887, being located at the base of the bluff that is now the center of Scotts Bluff National Monument. Although settled in 1886, Gering officially became a town in 1887 by a corporation headed by Oscar Gardner of Broken Bow, Nebraska and named for Martin Gering, a pioneer merchant with whom Gardner started the first dry goods store. Gardner, who was also a lawyer and Gering's first notary public, started the post office 1887, becoming Gering's first Postmaster. Union Pacific Railroad platted the town in 1887, but did not lay any track until 1910. In November 1888, Scottsbluff county split from Cheyenne County, and Gering became the new county seat. Scottsbluff is a city in Scotts Bluff County, Nebraska, United States, in the Great Plains region. The population was 14,436 at the 2020 census. Scottsbluff is the largest city in the Nebraska Panhandle, and the 13th-most-populous city in Nebraska. Scottsbluff was founded in 1899 across the North Platte River from its namesake, a bluff that is now protected by the National Park Service as Scotts Bluff National Monument. The monument was named after Hiram Scott, a fur trader with the Rocky Mountain Fur Company who was found dead in the vicinity on the return trip from a fur expedition. Nebraska Rural Radio Association
The Nebraska Rural Radio Association is a radio broadcast network in the U.S. state of Nebraska. It was formed in 1948 with the goal of bringing information to farmers and ranchers in the state, including daily grain and livestock markets, weather and farm reports. Its first station, KRVN (AM), was started in 1951. Severe blizzards in Nebraska in 1948-49 had resulted in deaths and serious damage to herds and crops across the state. One of the reasons cited for the massive loss of life, crops, and livestock was a lack of timely news and weather sources for farmers. More than 4,000 shares (at $10 each) were sold under the auspices of the Nebraska Cooperative Council, Nebraska Farm Bureau, Nebraska Farmers Union, and the state Grange.
