KLEF
KLEF (98.1 FM) is a commercial classical music radio station in Anchorage, Alaska, United States. It is owned by Chinook Concert Broadcasters and operates from studios located on 65th Avenue. It is one of the last commercial classical music stations operating in the United States. History Northern Way Broadcasting, Inc., was granted a construction permit to build a new radio station on 98.1 MHz in Anchorage on December 15, 1986, after settling with two other applicants for the frequency. However, before construction, Northern Way sold the permit in 1987 to Chinook Concert Broadcasters. Chinook Concert was owned by Rick Goodfellow along with seven California families and one in Sitka, Alaska, and the station was consulted by Ed Davis, one of the founders and owners of KDFC in San Francisco. KOAN is managed by Alaska Integrated Media, a company of six radio stations; three owned by AIM ( KZND-FM, KMVN, KVNT) and three managed by the company ( KLEF, KYKA, KOAN). Its studios are located on Business Park Boulevard in Anchorage, and its transmitter is located in South Anchorage. KROI (92.1 FM) is a radio station serving the Greater Houston market. Licensed to Seabrook, Texas and owned by Urban One, the station broadcasts an urban gospel format. The station's studios are located in Greenway Plaza and the transmitter is based near Rosharon in unincorporated Brazoria County. It is one of three Radio One-owned stations serving Houston, alongside KBXX and KMJQ. The station began as a Top 40 station upon its launch on 1983, but later shifted to classical and adult contemporary genres before its acquisition by Radio One, after which it became an urban gospel station. In October 2011, KROI flipped to an all-news format; however, by October 2014, plagued by poor ratings and large financial losses, Radio One flipped KROI to ''Boom 92''—a format focusing on classic hip-hop music. Easy listening (including mood music) is a popular music genre and radio format that was most popular during the 1950s to 1970s. It is related to middle-of-the-road (MOR) music and encompasses instrumental recordings of standards, hit songs, non- rock vocals and instrumental covers of selected popular rock songs.
