KK Lechia Gdańsk (Cycling)
Klub Kolarski Lechia Gdańsk () is a Polish cycling club based in Gdańsk, Poland. For the most part of its history the club was not successful and has been seen as more of a cycling club for the residents of Gdańsk to join. The team however did have some success in its early days, with the tour wins at the Tour de Pologne The Tour de Pologne (; ), officially abbreviated TdP, is an annual, professional men's Race stage, multiple-stage cycle sport, bicycle race primarily held in Poland. It consists of seven or eight stages and is usually around 1,200 km ... in 1957 and 1961 being the most notable in the team's history. Henryk Kowalski, the rider for Lechia was the winning rider on both occasions. Road bicycle racing is the cycle sport discipline of road cycling, held primarily on Road surface, paved roads. Mountain bike racing (shortened MTB or ATB racing) is the competitive cycle sport discipline of mountain biking held on off-road terrain. Tour De Pologne
The Tour de Pologne (; ), officially abbreviated TdP, is an annual, professional men's Race stage, multiple-stage cycle sport, bicycle race primarily held in Poland. It consists of seven or eight stages and is usually around 1,200 km in length. The race was first held in 1928 and is considered the oldest and most important bicycle race in Poland. Until 1952 the race was held sporadically, but since then it has been an annual race. Until early 1993 the race was open to Amateur sports, amateur cyclists only and most of its winners came from Poland. Since 2009, the race has been taking place between July and August. The international cycling association, the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), made TdP part of the UCI ProTour in 2005, and part of the UCI World Tour, cycling's highest level of professional men's races, in 2009. Henryk Kowalski (cyclist)
Henryk Kowalski (17 July 1933 – 11 July 2021) was a Polish road cyclist. Born in Turzysk in the Second Polish Republic Kowalski will have been forced to move westwards after World War II due to the changing of borders and expulsion of local populations, with his hometown being given to Ukraine. Kowalski started cycling professionally with Budowlani Warszawa between 1954–1955, spent a short spell with Stal Stocznia in 1956, before spending the majority of his career with KK Lechia Gdańsk between 1957–1970. It was while with Lechia he enjoyed his greatest success, winning the Tour de Pologne twice, in 1957 and 1961. and winning the Vuelta a Cuba in 1967. Kowalski died in Gdańsk aged 88, and is buried in the Żydowski cemetery in Chełm, Gdańsk. Lechia Gdańsk
Lechia Gdańsk () is a Polish football (soccer), football club based in Gdańsk. As of the 2025–26 Ekstraklasa, 2025–26 season, they compete in the Ekstraklasa. The club was founded in 1945 by people Polish population transfers (1944–1946), expelled from Lviv, Lwów, who were supporters of Poland's oldest football team Lechia Lwów, founded in 1903. The club's name comes from Lechia, a poetic name for Poland, and is a continuation of the name used by the club based in Lwów. In their early years, Lechia enjoyed some success, most notably finishing third in the Ekstraklasa, Polish top division, before spending decades in the second and third tiers.
