KKNG-FM
KKNG-FM (97.3 FM) is a radio station licensed to Blanchard, Oklahoma, serving the Oklahoma City Metroplex. It is owned by Mark Whitten, through licensee KKNG Radio LLC. KKNG-FM carries a religious talk and information radio format focusing on Catholic listeners, and airs programming from the EWTN Radio Network. The transmitter is at NE 40th Street at U.S. Route 62 in Blanchard. History On August 18, 1977, the station first signed on as KWEY-FM. It was originally licensed to Weatherford, Oklahoma. In March 1984, the station became KBXR. It changed back to KWEY-FM on September 20, 1991. Until 2006, it was a country station branded "97.3 The Coyote". In 2006, the transmitter was moved closer to Oklahoma City and its format changed to variety hits. It became KOJK, and joined the Jack FM network as "97.3 Jack FM." KJKE (93.3 FM broadcasting, FM, "93.3 Jake FM") is a radio station broadcasting a country music, new country music format. Licensed to Newcastle, Oklahoma, the station serves the Oklahoma City metropolitan area. The station is owned by Tyler Media. The station's studios are located in Northeast Oklahoma City and a transmitter site is located in Newcastle. History KTEN-FM began broadcasting in Ada, Oklahoma, on April 12, 1971. The station became KTLS in 1984 and was acquired by the Post-Newsweek Cable division of The Washington Post Company in 1990 as part of a package deal with Ada's cable system. Tyler Media acquired the then-adult contemporary outlet in 1995. Tyler moved the station into the Oklahoma City market and relaunched it as KKNG-FM, "King Country", in late 1997. Blanchard, Oklahoma
Blanchard is a city in McClain and Grady counties in the U.S. state of Oklahoma. The population was 8,879 at the 2020 census, and an estimated 9,663 in 2023. Blanchard is part of a rapidly growing area of northern McClain and Grady counties known as the "Tri-City Area" with Newcastle and Tuttle. History The center of Blanchard is situated in Township 8 North, Range 4 West, Section 30 in northwestern McClain County. Named after William G. "Bill" Blanchard, the community was organized originally by the Canadian Valley Construction Company, which also planned to build a railroad. A call sign can be formally assigned by a government agency, informally adopted by individuals or organizations, or even cryptographically encoded to disguise a station's identity.
