KIXE-TV
KIXE-TV (channel 9) is a PBS member television station in Redding, California, United States, serving the northern Sacramento Valley. The station is owned by the Northern California Educational Television Association. KIXE's studios are located along North Market Street on the north side of Redding, and its transmitter is located atop Shasta Bally. Educational broadcasting came to the Redding and Chico area in 1964 with the launch of KIXE-TV, which culminated an 11-year effort by local educators. The station was built in spite of competition for channel 9 from a proposed third commercial station for the region. Originally housed on the campus of Chico State College (now Chico State University), KIXE initially had no local programming capability and served to rebroadcast programs from KVIE in Sacramento. KVIE (channel 6) is a PBS member television station in Sacramento, California, United States. The station is owned by KVIE, Inc., a community-based non-profit organization. KVIE's studios are located on West El Camino Avenue in the Natomas district of Sacramento, and its transmitter is located in Walnut Grove, California. After years of interest in educational television in the Sacramento area, KVIE began broadcasting in February 1959, airing evening educational programs from PBS predecessor National Educational Television and daytime instructional output for schools. KHSL-TV (channel 12) is a television station in Chico, California, United States, serving the Chico–Redding, California, Redding area as an affiliate of CBS and The CW Plus. It is owned by Allen Media Group in common operation with KNVN (channel 24), the market's NBC/Telemundo affiliate owned by Maxair Media, a combination known as Action News Now. Early Prime Time
In American television, early prime time is a programming practice of airing television prime time programming an hour earlier than normal. It is most applicable in the Pacific Time Zone, where prime time programming generally airs from 8 to 11 p.m. (as on the East Coast), as opposed to 7 to 10 p.m. as in the Central and Mountain time zones. Interest by network affiliates on the West Coast in moving their prime time schedules up an hour to account for changing lifestyles and viewing habits took root most notably in Northern California, where NBC permitted KCRA-TV in Sacramento to experiment with an early prime time schedule beginning in 1991. WTCI
WTCI (channel 45) is a PBS member television station in Chattanooga, Tennessee, United States. Owned by the Greater Chattanooga Public Television Corporation, the station maintains studios on Bonnyshire Drive in Chattanooga, and its transmitter is located on Sawyer Cemetery Road in unincorporated Mile Straight. WTCI was the third of four stations built by the Tennessee Department of Education to expand public television coverage in Tennessee, signing on March 3, 1970. Its original studios were on the campus of what is now Chattanooga State Community College. It operated as a state-owned station until 1984, when it was spun out to a local board in the wake of a scandal that revealed inefficiencies in Tennessee's state-run public TV stations. State Route 273 (SR 273) is a state highway in the U.S. state of California that serves as a business loop of Interstate 5 that travels directly through the downtown districts of Anderson and Redding in Shasta County. SR 273 was part of former U.S. Route 99. In 2007 an effort was begun to have this segment signed as "Historic Route 99". Supporters hope to have black-and-white historical Route 99 signs up by October. They will be placed from North Market Street in Redding down to where Interstate 5 meets Highway 273 south of Anderson. Shasta College
Shasta College is a public community college in Redding, California, with branch campuses in Burney, Weaverville, and Red Bluff. It was founded in 1950 and later moved to a much larger campus while the original campus became the new location of Shasta High School. Shasta College has approximately 8,865 students of all ages, including traditional college students, concurrently-enrolled high school students, older, re-entry students, and continuing education students who are simply taking classes for fun. The college has a wide variety of transfer-level and pre-transfer-level classes and programs as well as vocational programs.
