KIDZ-LD
KIDZ-LD, virtual and UHF digital channel 42, was a low-power television station licensed to Abilene, Texas, United States. It served as a translator of Fox affiliate KXVA (channel 15) which is owned by Tegna Inc. KIDZ-LD's transmitter was located at KXVA's studios in the Bank of America Building on Chestnut Street in downtown Abilene; master control and some internal operations for KXVA and KIDZ-LD were based at the facilities of sister station and fellow Fox affiliate KIDY on South Chadbourne Street in San Angelo. History On October 30, 1991, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) granted an original construction permit to former owner Sage Broadcasting Corporation to build low-power television station K54DT, to serve Abilene, Texas on UHF channel 54. KXVA (channel 15) is a television station in Abilene, Texas, United States, affiliated with Fox Broadcasting Company, Fox and MyNetworkTV. Owned by Tegna Inc., the station broadcasts from a transmitter located in rural southwestern Callahan County, Texas, Callahan County. Its operations and local productions are housed at sister station and fellow Fox affiliate KIDY in San Angelo, Texas, San Angelo; the two stations are commonly branded as "Fox West Texas" and largely simulcast the same programming, including local newscasts covering both areas. Bayou City Broadcasting, LLC was a broadcasting company founded in December 2007 and was owned by DuJuan McCoy. The company was based in The Woodlands, Texas. It is defunct as of September 2020 due to its acquisition by Entertainment Studios. History The company's first acquisition of stations occurred in January 2008, when it acquired several television stations in West Texas from Sage Broadcasting for $3 million, including Fox affiliates in Abilene and San Angelo. Bayou City briefly exited broadcasting when it sold those stations to Dallas-based London Broadcasting in September 2012. The company re-entered the broadcasting business in 2015 when it acquired WEVV-TV in Evansville, Indiana. Digital Television Transition In The United States
The digital transition in the United States was the switchover from analog to exclusively digital broadcasting of terrestrial television programming. According to David Rehr, then president and CEO of the National Association of Broadcasters, this transition represented "the most significant advancement of television technology since color TV was introduced." For full-power TV stations, the transition went into effect on June 12, 2009, with stations ending regular programming on their analog signals no later than 11:59 p.m. local time that day. The class A television service is a system for regulating some low-power television (LPTV) stations in the United States. Class A stations are denoted by the broadcast callsign suffix "-CA" (analog) or "-CD" (digital), although very many analog -CA stations have a digital companion channel that was assigned the -LD suffix used by regular (non-class-A) digital LPTV stations. The FCC created this category of service as a result of the Community Broadcasters Protection Act of 1999. ''Abilene Reporter-News'' is a daily newspaper based in Abilene, Texas, United States. The newspaper started publishing as the weekly ''Abilene Reporter'', helmed by Charles Edwin Gilbert on June 17, 1881, just three months after Abilene was founded. It is hence the oldest continuous business in the city. It became a daily newspaper in 1885. History Two months after starting the paper, a fire destroyed several buildings in Abilene, including Gilbert's office.
