KC Groves
Katherine "KC" Groves (born March 14, 1971) is an American mandolin player and singer specializing in old-time music and bluegrass. She grew up in Dearborn, Michigan and lives now in Lyons, Colorado. Coming from a musical family, her father is a singer and a country yodeler, she had piano lessons at the age of six, though she hated them. In the early 1990s she began playing guitar, writing songs, and learning mandolin. Groves established herself in the Ann Arbor / Detroit alternative music scene. In 1999, she released her first CD, ''Can You Hear It'', produced by Charles Sawtelle, and won the Detroit Music Award for Best Bluegrass Artist / Group. KC liked piano enough to play jazz gigs on the weekends while attending UM and played with the band Tomcat. In addition, she painted the mural on the iconic local party store: The Blue Front. Dearborn, Michigan
Dearborn is a city in Wayne County in the U.S. state of Michigan. At the 2020 census, it had a population of 109,976. Dearborn is the seventh most-populated city in Michigan and is home to the largest Muslim population in the United States per capita. It also is home to the largest mosque in the United States. Yodeling
Yodeling (also jodeling) is a form of singing which involves repeated and rapid changes of pitch between the low-pitch chest register (or "chest voice") and the high-pitch head register or falsetto. The English word ''yodel'' is derived from the German (and originally Austro-Bavarian) word ''jodeln'', meaning "to utter the syllable ''jo''" (pronounced "yo" in English). This vocal technique is used in many cultures worldwide. Recent scientific research concerning yodeling and non-Western cultures has shown that music and speech evolved from a common prosodic precursor. Uncle Earl
Uncle Earl is an American old-time music group, formed in 2000 by KC Groves and Jo Serrapere. Currently the lineup consists of four women, all of whom share vocal duties: KC Groves, Kristin Andreassen, Abigail Washburn, and Rayna Gellert. They have released three albums and two EPs, and their fifth album ''Waterloo, Tennessee'' was produced by John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin. History 1999-2002: Founding Groves and Serrapere, both American songwriters and multi-instrumentalists, started the band in 2000. The Uncle Earl biography, however, states 1999 as founding year. According to the founders, they had no original interest in starting a band.
