KBFL (1060 AM) is a radio station broadcasting a sports format. The station most recently and throughout most of its history had a Music of Your Life adult standards format; from September 1, 2013 through March 2, 2015, KBFL broadcast a smooth jazz format. KBFL simulcasts on KBFL-FM 99.9 and translator K245CA 96.9 FM. The station is licensed to Springfield, Missouri and was previously owned by Meyer-Baldridge, Inc. (d/b/a Meyer Communications). Music of Your Life is an American syndicated music radio format featuring adult standards music. First created by recording executive Al Ham in 1978, the format achieved popularity in the 1980s among AM radio stations in the United States and Canada, which were then facing declines in listenership in a transition period of most popular music to the FM band. KTXR
KTXR ("98.7 the Dove") is a radio station licensed to Springfield, Missouri, United States broadcasting a soft adult contemporary format. The station was previously a sports talk format known as "JOCK 98.7 ESPN." This format moved to 98.7 FM's sister stations KBFL and KBFL-FM (1060 AM/96.9 FM/99.9 FM) on July 30, 2020, as part of the purchase of the Meyer Communications owned stations (which also includes KWTO and KWTO-FM) by Zimmer Midwest Communications. History KTXR went on the air as KWTO-FM on November 23, 1967; it later adopted a rock format and was known as "Rock 99". Smooth Jazz
Smooth jazz is commercially oriented crossover jazz music. Although often described as a "genre", it is a debatable and highly controversial subject in jazz music circles. As a radio format, however, smooth jazz radio became the successor to easy listening music on radio station programming from the mid-1970s through the early 1990s. Adult standards (also sometimes known as the nostalgia or Big Band format) is a North American radio format heard primarily on AM or class A FM stations. Adult standards started in the 1950s and is aimed at "mature" adults, meaning mainly those people over 50 years of age, but it is mostly targeted for senior citizens. It is primarily on AM because market research reveals that only persons in that age group listen to music on AM in sizable numbers. Adult standards first became a popular format in the late 1970s and early 1980s as a way to reach mature adults who came of age before the rock era but were perhaps too mature for adult contemporary radio or too young for beautiful music or MOR stations.
