Karr (surname)
Karr is a Gaelic surname derived from the Old Norse Kjarr. The surname Carr and its variants date back to the Battle Abbey Roll from 1066 after the Anglo Norman invasion of William the Conqueror. The surname appears in the Old Norse genealogical section of the Flateyjarbók the largest medieval Icelandic manuscript. In Skáldskaparmál, Snorri Sturluson lists Kjarr as a descendant of Auði, the founder of the Ödling dynasty. In the Heimskringla by Snorri Sturluson, Valland is mentioned several times as the Old Norse name for Gaul. It was the country where Rollo carved out Normandy: Kjárr, usually a king of the Valir. Kíarr/Kjárr is generally recognized to stem from Latin Caesar. Early Scandinavian links with Gothic regions suggest it also could have come from Greek kaîsar, perhaps through Gothic Kaiser. KARR (AM)
KARR (1460 kHz) was an AM radio station licensed to Kirkland, Washington, United States. It broadcast to the Seattle metropolitan area and was last owned by James A. Dalke. KARR used a directional antenna at all times, broadcasting at 5,000 watts by day and 2,500 watts at night. Its transmitter was off 127th Place NE in Kirkland. History The 1460 frequency in the Seattle area first was used by KYAC, which signed on in 1964. It was owned by Carl-Dek, Inc. and aired a country music format, and would later flip to an R&B format. The station was a daytimer, broadcasting at 5,000 watts but required to go off the air at sunset to avoid interfering with other stations on AM 1460. In 1975, KYAC moved to 1250 AM. Also in 1975, a new station signed on at AM 1460. KILO aired an album rock format. Chicago/Aurora Municipal Airport is a public airport opened in April 1966, located in the village of Sugar Grove, Illinois, United States, west of the city of Aurora, both in Kane County. The airport is owned and operated by the City of Aurora. It is west of Chicago and is designated as a reliever airport for Chicago's O'Hare and Midway airports. Although most U.S. airports use the same three-letter location identifier for both the FAA and IATA, Chicago/Aurora Municipal Airport is assigned ARR by the FAA and AUZ by the IATA (which assigned ARR to Alto Río Senguer Airport in Argentina).
