K1010 TV
K1010 TV was a short-lived German call-in TV station headquartered in Berlin. K1010 TV, based on the website of the same name, launched in 2004. K1010 TV differed from most other call-in TV stations. It featured quiz shows where callers could complete rounds which became progressively more difficult, earning more money for every round completed. While the caller could choose to stop after every round, if he lost he would win no money. The various quiz shows were rather challenging, for example, the ''Newsquiz'' asked questions on current affairs. These quiz shows were also broadcast on other TV stations, like n-tv. Due to a very poor distribution in cable TV networks and the subsequent lack of callers, K1010 TV was forced to close in 2006, just two years after its opening. 576i is a standard-definition digital video mode, originally used for digitizing analog television in most countries of the world where the utility frequency for electric power distribution is 50 Hz. Because of its close association with the legacy color encoding systems, it is often referred to as PAL, PAL/SECAM or SECAM when compared to its 60 Hz (typically, see PAL-M) NTSC-colour-encoded counterpart, 480i. The ''576'' identifies a vertical resolution of 576 lines, and the ''i'' identifies it as an interlaced resolution. The field rate, which is 50 Hz, is sometimes included when identifying the video mode, i.e. 576i50; another notation, endorsed by both the International Telecommunication Union in BT.601 and SMPTE in SMPTE 259M, includes the frame rate, as in 576i/25. Standard-definition television (SDTV, SD, often shortened to standard definition) is a television system which uses a resolution that is not considered to be either high or enhanced definition. "Standard" refers to it being the prevailing specification for broadcast (and later, cable) television in the mid- to late-20th century, and compatible with legacy analog broadcast systems. The two common SDTV signal types are 576i, with 576 interlaced lines of resolution, derived from the European-developed PAL and SECAM systems, and 480i based on the American NTSC system. Common SDTV refresh rates are 25, 29.97 and 30 frames per second. Both systems use a 4:3 aspect ratio. Standards that support digital SDTV broadcast include DVB, ATSC, and ISDB. n-tv is a German free-to-air television news channel owned by the Bertelsmann Media's RTL Group. n-tv broadcasts news and weather every hour and half-hour in the morning. It also broadcasts magazine shows and documentaries. History n-tv began as a business development project at Time Warner International which, under the leadership of then-chairman Steve Ross, was looking for ways to grow its businesses internationally. Time Warner at the time was a major shareholder in Turner Broadcasting System, parent company of CNN (both now subsidiaries of WarnerMedia), and began looking for ways to get into the news channel business internationally. Gems TV (Germany)
Gems TV was a short-lived German teleshopping channel based in Grünwald near Munich, which broadcast 20 hours daily via Astra 19.2°E from 1 October 2012 to 18 December 2012. In the time from 6 am to 2 pm, the channel was also broadcast via the frequencies of Channel 21. There were offered jewelry of all kinds. The operator was ''GemsTV Germany GmbH'', which sold on the same principle as Gems TV in the UK. Gems TV was a subsidiary of Channel 21. On 18 December 2012, Gems TV discontinued its operation due to non-achieved sales targets. It was already the second failed attempt of Gems TV in Germany, after the first Gems TV with a new owner was merged with Juwelo TV.
