K. Subramaniam (lawyer)
Krishnasamy Subramaniyam (20 April 1904 – 7 April 1971) was an Indian film director of the 1930s and 1940s. Dancer Padma Subrahmanyam is his daughter. Biography Subramanyam was involved in the establishment of the Tamil film industry. He was born in a Brahmin family. He started his film career as a scenarist and producer, working on P. K. Raja Sandow's silent films such as '' Peyum Pennum''. He started Meenakshi Cineton with Alagappa Chettiar, directing his first film ''Pavalakkodi'', in which the Tamil film star M. K. Thyagaraja Bhagavathar debuted. He made a shift with the politically emphatic ''Balayogini'', criticizing the caste system prevalent then. In 1938, he made ''Sevasadanam'', advocating a better deal for women, the saint film ''Bhaktha Chetha'', critiquing untouchability and the war effort film ''Maanasamrakshanam''. Papanasam is a Panchayati raj in India, panchayat town in Thanjavur district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is located from Thanjavur and from Kumbakonam. ''Maanasamrakshanam'' is a 1945 Indian Tamil language film, produced and directed by K. Subramaniam with S. D. Subbulakshmi, G. Pattu Iyer, V. N. Janaki, T. R. Ramachandran and Kali N. Rathnam. The film is lost. Plot During World War II, Japan invaded Burma (now known as Myanmar in 1941. Many Indians have adopted Burma as their country and were living there. ''Usha Kalyanam'' is a 1936 Tamil-language film directed by K. Subramaniam. The film starred S. D. Subbulakshmi, C. V. V. Panthulu and G. Pattu Iyer in lead roles. The Nadigar Sangam (), officially known as the South Indian Artistes' Association (), is a Trade union, union for film, television, and stage (theatre), stage actors in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, based in Chennai. Formed in 1952, the group has a charitable trust fund to provide pensions to retired actors, voice support for actors caught in controversy, and have collectively protested socio-political issues.
