K.S. Narasimhaswamy
Kikkeri Subbarao Narasimhaswamy (26 January 1915 – 27 December 2003) was an Indian poet who wrote in Kannada language. His most popular collection of poems, ''Mysooru Mallige'', has seen more than thirty-two reprints and is sometimes given to newly married couples in Karnataka. Narasimhaswamy is a recipient of the Sahitya Akademi Award, Kannada sahitya Academy Award, and the Asian Prize for literature. Early life Narasimhaswamy was born in Kikkeri in Mandya district. He abandoned studies after his father, who wanted him to become an engineer, died, and took up a job of a clerk in a municipal office in Mysore. However, in 1934, he joined the Central College in Bangalore, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree. He was transferred to Bangalore in 1954 and retired as a superintendent in the Karnataka Housing Board in the 1970s. He married Venkamma in Tiptur in 1936. Sahitya Akademi Award
The Sahitya Akademi Award is a literary honour in India, which the Sahitya Akademi, India's National Academy of Letters, annually confers on writers of the most outstanding books of literary merit published in any of the 22 languages of the 8th Schedule to the Indian constitution as well as in English and Rajasthani language. Established in 1954, the award comprises a plaque and a cash prize of ₹ 1,00,000. The award's purpose is to recognise and promote excellence in Indian writing and also acknowledge new trends. The annual process of selecting awardees runs for the preceding twelve months. The plaque awarded by the Sahitya Akademi was designed by the Indian film-maker Satyajit Ray. Prior to this, the plaque occasionally was made of marble, but this practice was discontinued because of the excessive weight. Kannada language, Kannada (ಕನ್ನಡ) is the language spoken in Karnataka (ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ, ಕರುನಾಡು). Karnataka has eight Jnanapeeth (ಜ್ಞಾನ ಪೀಠ ಪುರಸ್ಕೃತ) award winners, the highest honor bestowed for Indian literature. Tiptur is a city in the southern part of the state of Karnataka, India. It is one of the three sub-divisional headquarters of Tumakuru district in Karnataka. Capital city Bengaluru is 140 km from Tiptur. Tiptur city is known for its coconut plantations. It is the second largest and fastest growing city in Tumkur District. Central College, Bangalore
Central College Bengaluru (1858) is one of the oldest colleges in India. This college was originally affiliated to University of Mysore in Mysore State. Rev. John Garrett was the founder and first principal of the Central High School, which was afterwards renamed Central College.
