Udo Jürgens
Jürgen Udo Bockelmann (30 September 1934 – 21 December 2014), generally known as Udo Jürgens, was an Austrian composer and singer of popular music whose career spanned over 50 years. He won the Eurovision Song Contest 1966 for Austria, composed close to 1,000 songs, and sold over 104 million records. In 2007, he additionally obtained Swiss citizenship. In 2010, he legally changed his name to Udo Jürgens Bockelmann. He is credited with broadening German-language pop music beyond the traditional post-war "Schlager music, schlager" (hit song) in the 1950s by infusing it with a modern pop appeal and French chanson style. His compositions and arrangements attracted fans of all ages, and he continued to fill venues in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland until his death at age 80. Curd Gustav Andreas Gottlieb Franz Jürgens (13 December 191518 June 1982) was a German-Austrian stage and film actor. He was usually billed in English-speaking films as Curt Jurgens. He was well known for playing Ernst Udet in ''Des Teufels General''. His English-language roles include ''James Bond'' villain Karl Stromberg in '' The Spy Who Loved Me'' (1977), Éric Carradine in '' And God Created Woman'' (1956), and Professor Immanuel Rath in ''The Blue Angel'' (1959). Early life Jürgens was born on 13 December 1915 in the Munich borough of Solln, Kingdom of Bavaria, German Empire. Andrea Jürgens (15 May 1967 – 20 July 2017) was a German schlager singer. She became famous as a child star in the late 1970s when she had her first hit with "Und dabei liebe ich euch beide" (And Yet I Love You Both) at age 10. She released over 60 singles. Career Early years Andrea Elisabeth Maria Jürgens was the daughter of Margret and Heinz Jürgens. She was born in Wanne-Eickel, North Rhine-Westphalia, West Germany. She performed her debut hit "Und dabei liebe ich euch beide" (And Yet I Love You Both) in her first television appearance on ARD-Silvestergala on New Year's Eve 1977. The song was written by Jack White and Jon Athan. Its lyrics address the post-divorce situation from a child's perspective. Further appearances on various television and radio shows followed. Jürgen Jürgens (5 October 1925 – 4 August 1994) was a German choral conductor and academic teacher. He founded and directed the Monteverdi-Chor Hamburg, a pioneering ensemble for Monteverdi's music. Biography Born in Frankfurt am Main, Jürgens received his musical training at the Musisches Gymnasium Frankfurt with Kurt Thomas. Jürgens studied singing and choir direction with at the Musikhochschule Freiburg. In 1955, he founded the award-winning Monteverdi-Chor Hamburg. They recorded for Archiv Produktion, focussing on works of Claudio Monteverdi. Later the choir became involved in the Telefunken/Teldec Bach cantatas project with the Leonhardt-Consort. From 1961 to 1993, Jürgens was University Music Director of the Choir and Orchestra at the University of Hamburg. and was appointed professor at the University of Hamburg in 1973. Stefan Jürgens (born 26 February 1963) is a German actor and musician. Career Jürgens was born in Unna on 26 February 1963. In 1983, he began training at the Westfälische Schauspielschule in Bochum. After three and a half years he completed his acting training. He lives in Berlin and Vienna and has four children. Afterwards he was hired by the Schauspielhaus Bochum, the Theater Dortmund and the Theater des Westens in Berlin as well as other theaters. He also appeared in German TV and film productions.
