Júbilo Iwata
is a Japanese professional association football, football team based in Iwata, Shizuoka, Iwata, located in Shizuoka Prefecture. The club competes in J2 League following relegation from J1 League in 2024 J1 League, 2024. Etymology The team's name ''Júbilo'' means 'joy' in Spanish and Portuguese. History Origins and rise to the top (1972–1996) The team started out as the company team for Yamaha Motor Corporation in April 1972. After making its way through the Shizuoka Prefecture, Shizuoka and Tōkai region, Tōkai football leagues, it played in the Japan Soccer League until it reorganized as the J.League at the end of 1992. Their first glory happened when they won both the Emperor's Cup and promotion as List of winners of J2 and predecessors, champions of the JSL Division 2 in 1982. Yamaha Stadium
is a football stadium located in Iwata, Shizuoka, Iwata City, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan, owned by Yamaha Motors, next to whose plant it is located, and was purpose-designed for use with association football, soccer and rugby union. It is the home ground for the J2 League club Júbilo Iwata, and the rugby union team Shizuoka Blue Revs. The stadium has a seating capacity of 15,165 people. Shimizu S-Pulse
is a Japanese professional association football, football club located in Shimizu-ku, Shizuoka, Shimizu-ku, Shizuoka (city), Shizuoka, Shizuoka Prefecture. S-Pulse is going to compete in the J1 League for the 2025 Season, after winning promotion from the Japanese second tier of professional league football, the J2 League in the 2024 J2 League, 2024 season. Shizuoka Derby
The is the local derby in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan, between fierce rivals Shimizu S-Pulse (based in Shizuoka City) and Júbilo Iwata (based in Iwata City). History Yamaha Motor SC was founded in 1972 by the employees of Yamaha Motor Company. Shimizu S-Pulse was founded in 1991 as the only J.League club not based on a corporate club, and Yamaha Motor changed club name to Júbilo Iwata and became professional in 1993. The Shizuoka derby is known as one of the most bitter derby matches in Japan. Both Shimizu and Iwata had hoped to become original clubs in the 1993 J.League, but Iwata which had a proven track record as an amateur wasn't selected in favor of the new club Shimizu.
