Jørgen Jensen (runner)
Jørgen Pilegaard Jensen (10 April 1944 – 2 October 2009) was a Denmark, Danish middle- and long-distance runner. Career Jensen won the inaugural 1975 edition of Amsterdam Marathon on 3 May 1975, clocking 2:16:51. He ran the Olympic marathons in 1972 Summer Olympics, 1972 and 1976 Summer Olympics, 1976 and finished in 30th and 28th place, respectively. Between 1966 and 1976 Jensen won eight national team titles (4 × 1500 m relay and cross-country) and eight individual titles, in the 5000 m (1966), 10000 m (1973), 20 km (1972 and 1974) and marathon (1973-1976). Amsterdam Marathon
The Amsterdam Marathon, currently branded as TCS Amsterdam Marathon, is an annual marathon (42.195 km) in Amsterdam in the Netherlands since 1975. The road running, road race has a IAAF Road Race Label Events, Platinum Label from World Athletics. During the event, there are also a half marathon race (21.097 km) and an 8 km race in the program. The current men's course record is 2:03:38 (hour, h:minute, m:second, s) set by Tamirat Tola in 2021 and the current women's course record is 2:16:52 set by Yalemzerf Yehualaw in 2024. Gerard Nijboer won this marathon four times, more than any other runner, in the 1980s. After him Wilson Chebet has won three races in the 2010s. Fukuoka Marathon
The is an IAAF Gold Label international men's marathon race held in Fukuoka, Japan. It was previously known as the Fukuoka International Open Marathon Championship between 1947 and 2021, when it was announced the race would be discontinued on its 75th edition. However, due to popular support, a successor race, inheriting the tradition and course of the original marathon, was established the next year. The course record is held by Tsegaye Kebede of Ethiopia, running 2:05:18 in 2009 to best his own record from the previous year. An athlete is most commonly a person who competes in one or more sports involving physical strength, speed, power, or endurance. The men's marathon at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, Canada, was held on Saturday July 31, 1976. The race started at 17:30 local time. There were 67 competitors from 36 countries. Seven of them did not finish. The maximum number of athletes per nation had been set at 3 since the 1930 Olympic Congress. The event was won by Waldemar Cierpinski of East Germany, the first Olympic marathon medal by any German runner. Frank Shorter of the United States and Karel Lismont of Belgium became the third and fourth men to win a second medal in the event, each one place behind their 1972 results. Ethiopia's four-Games marathon medal streak ended, as the nation boycotted the Games. Athletics At The 1976 Summer Olympics
At the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, 37 events were contested in athletics. There were a total number of 1005 participating athletes from 80 countries. The men's 50 kilometres walk competition was dropped from the Olympic athletics programme, despite its constant presence at the games since 1932. The IAAF chose to host its own world championship event instead, a month and a half after the Olympics.
