Jörg Hoffmann (swimmer)
Jörg Hoffmann (born 29 January 1970) is a retired freestyle swimmer from Germany and former World record holder. He was also multiple World and European champion, in both Long and Short Course Championships. Career Hoffmann was born in Schwedt an der Oder. He won 2 gold medals at the World Championships, 1 gold medal at the World Championships (SC), 4 gold medals at the European championships and 1 gold medal at the European championships (SC). A long distance specialist, he won the European title in the 1500 m freestyle four consecutive seasons: 1989 in Bonn, 1991 Athens, 1993 Sheffield and 1995 in Vienna. He won the bronze medal in the 1500 m freestyle at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain. He competed in three consecutive Summer Olympics, starting in Seoul 1988 as a member of the East German team. Freestyle Swimming
Freestyle is a category of Swimming (sport), swimming competition, defined by the rules of World Aquatics, in which competitors are subject to only a few limited restrictions on their swimming stroke. Freestyle races are the most common of all swimming competitions, with distances beginning with and reaching , also known as the mile. The term 'freestyle stroke' is sometimes used as a synonym for 'front crawl', as front crawl is the fastest surface swimming stroke. It is now the most common stroke used in freestyle competitions. 1993 FINA World Swimming Championships (25 M)
The 1st Short Course Swimming World Championships were organized by FINA and held in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, December 2–5, 1993. The meet featured competition in a short course (25 meter) pool. During the championships, a total of 12 world records were broken: 10 in the women's events and 2 in men's events, both in relays. China won the most events, ten, all in women's events. Le Jingyi won two individual and three relay events to travel home with five golds; Dai Guohong went home with four golds and one silver. In the men's events, the USA and Australia won three events each. Tripp Schwenk of the USA garnered three golds, winning the two backstroke events and also swimming on the USA's winning medley relay team. 1995 European Aquatics Championships
The 1995 European LC Championships in Aquatic sports, aquatics were staged in Vienna, Austria from 22–27 August. The competition, organised by the Ligue Européenne de Natation, LEN, was held in a temporary pool in the Prater Stadium.
