József Balogh (mathematician)
József Balogh is a Hungarian-American mathematician, specializing in graph theory and combinatorics. Education and career Balogh grew up in Mórahalom and attended secondary school in Szeged at Ságvári Endre Gyakorló Gimnázium (a special school for mathematics). As a student, he won two silver medals (in 1989 and 1990) at the International Mathematical Olympiad. He studied at the University of Szeged (with one year TEMPUS grant at the University of Ghent), where he received his M.S, in mathematics in 1995 with advisor Péter Hajnal and thesis ''On the existence of MDS-cyclic codes''. In 2001 Balogh received his doctorate from the University of Memphis with advisor Béla Bollobás and thesis ''Graph properties and Bootstrap percolation''. As a postdoc Balogh was at AT&T Shannon Laboratories in Florham Park, New Jersey and for several months in 2002 at the Institute for Advanced Study. The Oberwolfach Research Institute for Mathematics () is a center for mathematical research in Oberwolfach, Germany. It was founded by mathematician Wilhelm Süss in 1944. It organizes weekly workshops on diverse topics where mathematicians and scientists from all over the world come to do interdisciplinary, collaborative research. Benny Sudakov
Benny Sudakov (Hebrew: בני סודקוב; born October 1969) is an Israeli mathematician, who works mainly on extremal and probabilistic combinatorics. Biography He was born in Tbilisi, Georgia, and completed his undergraduate studies at Tbilisi State University in 1990. After emigrating to Israel, he received his PhD from Tel Aviv University in 1999, under the supervision of Noga Alon. From 1999 until 2002, he held a Veblen Research Instructorship, a joint position between Princeton University and the Institute for Advanced Study. Until 2007, he was an assistant professor at Princeton University. Until 2014, he was a professor at the University of California, Los Angeles. In July 2013, Sudakov joined ETH Zurich as a professor. Peter Keevash
Peter Keevash (born 30 November 1978) is a British mathematician, working in combinatorics. He is a professor of mathematics at the University of Oxford and a Fellow of Mansfield College. Early years Keevash was born in Brighton, England, but mostly grew up in Leeds. He competed in the International Mathematical Olympiad in 1995. He entered Trinity College, University of Cambridge, in 1995 and completed his B.A. in mathematics in 1998. He earned his doctorate from Princeton University with Benny Sudakov as advisor. He took a postdoctoral position at the California Institute of Technology before moving to Queen Mary, University of London as a lecturer, and subsequently professor, before his move to Oxford in September 2013. Noga Alon (; born 1956) is an Israeli mathematician and a professor of mathematics at Princeton University noted for his contributions to combinatorics and theoretical computer science, having authored hundreds of papers. Education and career Alon was born in 1956 in Haifa, where he graduated from the Hebrew Reali School in 1974. George Pólya Prize
The Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) has three prizes named after George Pólya: the George Pólya Prize for Mathematical Exposition, established in 2013; the George Pólya Prize in Applied Combinatorics, established in 1969, and first awarded in 1971; and the George Pólya Prize in Mathematics, established in 1992, to complement the exposition and applied combinatorics prizes.
