Józef Piłsudski Stadium (Bydgoszcz)
Stadion Miejski im. Józefa Piłsudskiego (), also known as Polonia Bydgoszcz Stadium (), is a multi-purpose stadium in Bydgoszcz, Poland. It is used mostly for motorcycle speedway and association football matches and is the home stadium of Polonia Bydgoszcz speedway and football teams. The stadium has a capacity of 20,000 people and was opened in 1924 by List of Polish heads of state (1918–present), president Stanisław Wojciechowski. History The stadium has hosted the final of both the Speedway World Team Cup in 1995 and the Speedway World Cup in 2014. Bydgoszcz is a city in northern Poland and the largest city in the historical region of Kuyavia. Tomasz Gollob
Tomasz Robert Gollob (; born 11 April 1971 in Bydgoszcz, Poland) is a former Polish motorcycle speedway rider. He appeared in every Speedway Grand Prix series between its inaugural season in 1995 and 2013. He earned 52 caps for the Poland national speedway team. Career summary Tomasz Gollob spent almost all of his career with hometown club Bydgoszcz until he moved to Unia Tarnów in 2004. He has won the Polish Individual Championship eight times (between 1992 and 2009) and the Polish Pairs Championship ten times. He has also won the Polish Grand Prix eight times in thirteen years. He clinched the Speedway World Championship in 2010 after securing the championship in Terenzano, Italy. Niels-Kristian Iversen
Niels Kristian Trochmann Iversen (, born 20 June 1982 in Esbjerg, Denmark) is an international motorcycle speedway rider. He is a seven times national champion of Denmark and was part of the Denmark speedway team, Danish teams that won the Speedway World Cup in 2006, 2008, 2012 and 2014. Early life Niels-Kristian Trochmann was born 20 June 1982 in Esbjerg, Denmark to Ann Marie and Flemming Iversen. Growing up with older brother Soren, Iversen decided he want to be a speedway rider. His local town Esbjerg had a track where Iversen began to learn his desired trade. Quickly moving up the ranks in Denmark, his first title came in 1994 at the 50cc Danish Individual Championship. Peter Kildemand
Peter Kildemand (born 1 September 1989) is a motorcycle speedway rider from Denmark and was a member of the Danish national team. He is a two-time Speedway Grand Prix winner. Career Kildemand started riding in Britain for Workington Comets in 2010 and 2011, before signing for Coventry Bees mid-way through the 2011 season. He was a member of the Swindon Robins 2012 Elite League Championship winning team and was named "Rider of the Year" for the club at the end of the season. Kildemand was also part of the Fjelsted team that won the 2017 Danish Speedway League. He was captain of Västervik Speedway team in 2018. In 2022, he signed for King's Lynn Stars but was unable to race for them after sustaining a pre season injury. Nicki Pedersen
Nicki Pedersen (born 2 April 1977) is a Danish motorcycle speedway rider. He is a three time world champion having won the World Championship in 2003, 2007 and 2008. He has also won the World Cup with Denmark in 2006, 2008, 2012 and 2014. Career Pedersen began speedway racing aged 11 at Danish club Fjelsted. He stayed at the club until a move to in 1998 to Holstebro, the same year that he made his British league debut with Newcastle Diamonds in the 1998 Premier League speedway season. He topped the League averages which began his journey towards the pinnacle of the sport. He started his Polish speedway career in 1999 with Polish Speedway First League club Start Gniezno and would go on to ride for ten different Polish sides. Brian Karger (born 9 February 1967, in Horsens, Denmark) is a Danish former international motorcycle speedway rider. Career He was a member of the Denmark speedway team when they won the 1991 and 1995 World Team Cup Finals. He also qualified for the 1992 World Final in Wrocław, Poland, where he finished 16th (last) with 4pts scored, including a win in his final race. He rode in Sweden and won the Swedish Elitserien in 1988 with Bysarna. He first rode in the United Kingdom for the Swindon Robins, after joining them late in the 1986 British League season. He later rode for Arena Essex Hammers and also for the Belle Vue Aces. In 1991, he helped the Arena Essex Hammers win the Fours Championship during the 1991 British League Division Two season. Tommy Knudsen
Tommy Knudsen (born 9 November 1961 in Roager, Denmark) is a former Motorcycle speedway rider who won eight Speedway World Team Cups, and two World Pairs. He earned 81 caps for the Denmark national speedway team. He is not to be confused with Tom P. Knudsen (born 1968), another rider from the period. Career Knudsen first became known when he won the Danish Under-16 Championships of 1975 and 1976 before becoming the Danish Under-21 Champion in 1978. Knudsen started racing in the United Kingdom during second half meetings in 1978. He was signed up by Coventry Bees in 1979 and was touted as a future champion. Knudsen won the 1980 Individual Speedway Junior European Championship and recorded an 8.10 average for Coventry during the 1980 British League season. Hans Nielsen (speedway Rider)
Hans Hollen Nielsen (born 26 December 1959) is a Danish former professional motorcycle speedway rider. He competed in the Speedway World Championships from 1977 to 1999. Nielsen is notable for winning four Speedway World Championship titles. During his career, he won a total of 22 world championships, making him arguably the most successful speedway rider of all time. In 2012, Nielsen was named an Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme, FIM Legend for his motorcycling achievements. He later managed the Danish national team. Denmark National Speedway Team
The Denmark national speedway team are one of the major teams in international motorcycle speedway. History It was not until the emergence of rider Ole Olsen (speedway rider), Ole Olsen that the Danish speedway team came to prominence. Previously the international scene had been largely dominated by Sweden, Poland and Great Britain. When he was joined in the team by Hans Nielsen (speedway rider), Hans Nielsen, Denmark became a major contender for honours and won the 1978 Speedway World Team Cup in West Germany. The team were the dominant force throughout the 1980s, winning seven Speedway World Team Cup, World Cups, including a record six world titles in a row, between 1983 and 1988. Other key riders during the period were Erik Gundersen, Tommy Knudsen, Jan O. Pedersen and Finn Thomsen. The 1995 Speedway World Team Cup was the 36th edition of the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme, FIM Speedway World Team Cup to determine the team world champions. The final took place at the Polonia Bydgoszcz Stadium in Poland.
