Józef Hen
Józef Hen (born Józef Henryk Cukier on 8 November 1923), is a Polish novelist, essayist, playwright, screenwriter, and reporter of Jewish origin. Biography Early life Cukier was born on 8 November 1923 in Warsaw. As a child he contributed to ''The Little Review'', a Friday supplement to an adult daily, written entirely by children and founded by the educator Janusz Korczak. After the German invasion of Poland in September 1939, he remained in Warsaw but fled the capital in November to escape the occupation. He spent the war in the Soviet Union. Despite his good health, he was not accepted into the Anders' Army in exile. In 1944, Cukier joined the rival Polish People's Army in exile and also published his poem "Łódź Wierna" (Faithful Łódź) in the magazine '' Voice of the Soldier''. During the war, Cukier lost his father, who was killed in 1945 in Buchenwald. His brother, Moses, disappeared in the Soviet Union, and his sister Mirka died in 1942. His mother and sister ... Partisans (PUWP Fraction)
The Partisans were an informal group in the Polish United Workers' Party. It was created in the 1960s, its main creators were Mieczysław Moczar and General Grzegorz Korczyński. The name comes from the Nazi occupation history of Moczar and Korczyński, when they commanded partisan troops and refers to the veteran ethos. Establishment Mieczysław Moczar, as Deputy Minister and then Minister of the Interior, brought together a group of middle- and lower-tier state and party activists as well as former soldiers of the People's Army. Moczar and Korczyński also started to bring together young activists, mainly nationalist-oriented, deprived of opportunities for promotion as a result of blocking positions by the older generation. The ''Czytelnik'' Publishing House ( pl, Spółdzielnia Wydawnicza „Czytelnik”) is a publishing company in Poland. It was established in 1944 behind the Soviet front line as the ''Spółdzielnia Wydawnicza "Czytelnik"'' ("Czytelnik" Publishing Cooperative). As of now, it is the oldest post–World War II publisher in Poland. The word ''czytelnik'' means "reader" in Polish. Intended to be located in Warsaw after the Nazi German withdrawal, it was temporarily headquartered in Lublin and Łódź. In July 1945 the headquarters were moved to Warsaw. Maciej Hen (born 13 June 1955 in Warsaw) is a Polish writer, translator and journalist. Life Maciej Hen is a son of a Polish writer Józef Hen and the late pedagogue and Russian teacher Irena Lebewal from Navariya near Lvov. Both of his parents are of Jewish origin. He attended (but in 1974 left just before the final examination) The National Art High School in Warsaw and in 1979 he completed his studies at the cinematography department of the National Film School in Łódź. On various occasions he worked as a camera operator, a director of photography and a director of documentary films, a still photographer and a photojournalist, a screenwriter, an actor, a journalist, a musician, an English translator and a TV lighting designer. Stanisław II August (born Stanisław Antoni Poniatowski; 17 January 1732 – 12 February 1798), known also by his regnal Latin name Stanislaus II Augustus, was King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania from 1764 to 1795, and the last monarch of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth.
