Jón Magnússon, Earl Of Orkney
Jón Magnússon was Earl of Orkney in 1284–c. 1312. Life Jón Magnússon was the son of Magnus III of Orkney, and succeeded his brother to the Earldom of Orkney and Mormaer of Caithness, Earldom of Caithness in 1284. He was a signatory of the Treaty of Birgham, Treaty of Birgham/Salisbury in 1290, in which Margaret, Maid of Norway, was betrothed to Edward II of England, Edward of Carnarfon. Jón Magnússon (author)
Jón Magnússon (c. 1610 – 1696) was an Icelandic Lutheranism, Lutheran pastor and author of the ''Píslarsaga'' (''Passion Saga'' or ''Story of My Sufferings''), which recounts the physical and mental torments he believed he had suffered as a result of witchcraft. Early life Jón Magnússon was born in northern Iceland as one of nine children. He lost his mother at an early age but came under the protection of the Bishop of Skálholt, who ensured he had the grammar school education which allowed him to become a pastor. After eight years at Ögur, in 1644 Jón Magnússon became the pastor of the village of Eyri, where he helped restore the dilapidated church. The events behind the ''Píslarsaga'' and the ''Kírkjuból Affair'' All passed peacefully until 1655, when Jón Magnússon was involved in a dispute with two of his parishioners, a father and son both called Jón Jónsson. Jón Magnússon (politician)
Jón Magnússon (16 January 1859 – 23 June 1926) was an Icelandic politician, and was prime minister of Iceland on two occasions. He served his first term, as a member of the Home Rule Party (''Heimastjórnarflokkurinn''), from 4 January 1917 to 7 March 1922. He served his second term, as a member of the Conservative Party (Iceland), Conservative Party (''Íhaldsflokkurinn'', a forerunner of the Independence Party (Iceland), Independence Party), from 22 March 1924 to 23 June 1926. He served as Speaker of the Parliament of Iceland, speaker of the Althing from 1913 to 1914. Death In June 1926, Jón traveled with King Christian X to Seyðisfjörður aboard the HDMS Niels Juel (1918), HDMS ''Niels Juel''. Following the king's departure back to Denmark on 22 June, Jón traveled with HDMS ''Gejser'' to Norðfjörður, where he grew up. Jón Bjarki Magnússon (born 30 June 1984) is an Icelandic journalist and independent documentary filmmaker. He studied creative writing at the University of Iceland (2012) and received his MA in Visual and Media Anthropology from Freie Universität, Berlin (2018). Biography Magnússon's journalistic work includes award-winning coverage of the conditions of refugees and asylum seekers in his home country and the leaked memo case, which led to the resignation of then-Minister of the Interior Hanna Birna Kristjánsdóttir. His short film, Even Asteroids Are Not Alone (2018), was awarded the Royal Anthropological Institute's (RAI) Short Film Prize for ‘the most outstanding short film on social, cultural and biological anthropology or archaeology’ in 2019. Jon Magnusson (born May 1965) is a British producer, writer and director. He is the son of Magnus Magnusson, the original presenter of ''Mastermind'' and Mamie Baird, a journalist, and a brother of TV presenter Sally Magnusson. Magnusson produced the medical sketch show '' Struck Off and Die'', several editions of the spoof radio panel game ''I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue'', and episodes of the sketch series '' Bremner, Bird and Fortune'' and ''Alas Smith and Jones'' on television.
