János Bartl
János Bartl (1878–1958), a descendant of a German craftsman family which had emigrated to Hungary, was one of the most important magic supply dealers of the pre-war era. Biography His parents called him Johann, but on his Hungarian birth certificate it said János. After attending school, he learned the craft of book-binding in his home town. As a journeyman he worked in Budapest, Vienna, Dresden, Munich, and Hamburg in large workshops. By 1902 Bartl was employed as a book cover gilder. He studied magic books in his free time and by 1909 he was performing professionally. He travelled predominantly through German towns under the name of "Aradi" and later under his own name. Around 1910 he opened a magic school, which called "Academy for Modern Magic Art", but it was apparently not very successful. Zrenjanin ( sr-Cyrl, Зрењанин, ; ; ; ; ) is a List of cities in Serbia, city and the administrative center of the Central Banat District in the autonomous province of Vojvodina, Serbia. The city urban area has a population of 67,129 inhabitants, while the city administrative area has 105,722 inhabitants (2022 census data). The old name for Zrenjanin is Veliki Bečkerek or ''Nagybecskerek'' as it was known under Austria-Hungary up until 1918. Dinardi
Alfred Körber (18 June 1911 – 3 October 1996), known by his stage name Rolf Dinardi (or simply Dinardi) was a German magician best known for his performances with feather flowers. Biography Körber was apprenticed as a baker and confectioner from a young age. He was introduced to magic by a stage hypnotist by the name of Rolf Dinardi and, after the latter's death, obtained permission to perform under that name. His first public show was on 6 January 1939, using props obtained from János Bartl. Dinardi met his future wife, a stage performer named Anni, at a travelling circus in Gladbeck, and they married in 1944. The Second World War prevented them from performing together until 1946. Dinardi was best known for his performances with springed feather flowers, which he would produce in tremendous quantities from a box that seemed too small to contain them all. Tobias "Theo" Leendert Bamberg (1875–1963) was a professional magician. Born in the Netherlands, Bamberg performed under the name ''Okito'' which is an anagram of Tokio (Tokyo). His father had been court magician to King William III of the Netherlands, making ''Okito'' the sixth generation in a family of outstanding magicians known as the Bamberg Magical Dynasty. Early life Bamberg was the son of Judic Simon Delden and David Tobias Bamberg. His family were Dutch Jews. As a young boy, Theo Bamberg nearly drowned while ice skating. The accident left him almost completely deaf and as a result, he performed entirely in pantomime.
