Ján Šefc
Ján Šefc (10 December 1924 – 17 May 2014), was a Slovak chess player, Czechoslovak Chess Championship winner (1955), European Team Chess Championship team medalist (1957). Biography Ján Šefc grew up in Košice, but after the occupation of the city of Hungary in 1938, his parents moved to Prešov. In 1949, after the death of his father Ján Šefc began to work in Bratislava, where he studied medicine. In 1953 Ján Šefc became a professional chess trainer. He was repeated participant of Czechoslovak Chess Championship, where in 1954 Ján Šefc won bronze, and in 1955 in Prague became the winner. In 1956, he ranked 6th in Wilhelm Steinitz memorial in Mariánské Lázně. Igor Štohl
Igor Štohl (born 27 September 1964) is a Slovak chess player who holds the titles of Grandmaster and Slovak Chess Championship winner (1984). Biography Igor Štohl learned to play chess at the age of 10. In 1982, in Copenhagen he won silver medal in World Junior Chess Championship after winner Andrei Sokolov. Two years later Igor Štohl won Slovak Chess Championship. In 1990 in Manila he participated in the World Chess Championship Interzonal Tournament where he was ranked in 23rd place. Igor Štohl is winner of many international chess tournaments, including winning or sharing first place in Trnava (1983), Starý Smokovec (1986, 1988), Hradec Králové (1988), Vrnjačka Banja (1989), Dortmund Sparkassen Chess Meeting (1991), Paul Keres Memorial Tournament (Vancouver, 1993), Vinkovci (1995), Stavanger (1998). Ľubomír Ftáčnik
Ľubomír Ftáčnik (born October 30, 1957 in Bratislava) is a Slovak chess grandmaster and a former European Junior Champion. Chess career He became European Junior Champion in 1976/77 and was awarded the International Master title shortly after. In 1980, he received the International Grandmaster title and this heralded the start of a successful playing career in national and international competitions. In his native Czechoslovakia (now the Czech Republic and Slovakia) he became national champion in 1981, 1982, 1983 and 1985. In tournaments, there have been many outright first places, including Esbjerg 1982, Trnava 1983, Alltensteig 1987, Baden-Baden Open 1987, the international invitation tournament in Haninge (Sweden), Vienna 1990 and the Parkroyal Surfers (Australia) 2000.
