Jutta Verkest
Jutta Verkest (born 11 October 2005) is a Belgian artistic gymnast. She represented Belgium at the 2020 Summer Olympics and was the youngest gymnast at the 2020 Olympic Games. Personal life Jutta Verkest was born on 11 October 2005, in Mechelen, and she began gymnastics in 2010. Her mother, Mireille, is from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Her idol is Gabby Douglas. She currently lives and trains in Ghent. Junior career At the 2016 Belgian Championships, Verkest finished seventh in the all-around and won the bronze medal on the floor exercise. She then made her international debut at the 2017 FIT Challenge and finished eleventh in the all-around in the Espoir division. She then competed at the 2017 Swiss Cup and helped the Belgian team win the silver medal behind Germany. Gymnastics At The 2020 Summer Olympics – Women's Artistic Team All-around
The women's artistic team all-around event at the 2020 Summer Olympics was held on 25 and 27 July 2021 at the Ariake Gymnastics Centre. There were 12 teams of 4 gymnasts each. The competition was won by the Russian athletes competing as the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), the 2016 silver medalists, when they competed as Russia. It was the first women's team all-around title for the Russian team since 1992, when it competed as the Unified Team. They led throughout the competition despite two falls on balance beam in the third rotation. The United States, the two-time defending champions and 2019 world champions, were second. Notably, top American gymnast Simone Biles withdrew from competing following the first rotation due to health concerns, and the three remaining American athletes had to alter their planned lineups and routines. The age requirements in gymnastics are established by the Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG) and regulate the age at which athletes are allowed to participate in senior-level competitions. Lisa Vaelen (born 10 August 2004) is a Belgian artistic gymnast who represented Belgium at the 2020 Summer Olympics. Junior career 2016-2017 At the 2016 Belgian Championships, Vaelen swept the gold medals on every event and in the all-around in the Junior A-12 Division. She then made her international debut at the 2016 Gymnova Cup and won the gold medal in the all-around in the Espoir division. At the 2017 WOGA Classic, Vaelen finished sixth in the all-around and placed eighth with the Belgian team. She then competed at the Belgian Championships and won the bronze medal in the all-around. Maellyse Brassart (born 22 June 2001) is a Belgian artistic gymnast. She represented Belgium at the 2020 Summer Olympics. She also competed at the World Championships in 2017, 2018, and 2019. Maria Sorana Ceplinschi (born 12 August 2005) is a Romanian artistic gymnast. Career Junior At the 2019 Romanian Junior Championships, Ceplinschi won silver medals on both vault and floor exercise, and she finished fourth in the all-around. Then at the Senior Romanian Championships, she finished twelfth in the all-around, fifth on vault, and seventh on floor exercise. Roxana Daniela Popa Nedelcu (born June 2, 1997 in Constanța) is a Romanian-born Spanish artistic gymnast who has represented Spain in all her international competitions. Popa first came into contact with gymnastics in her native Romania, where there is a long tradition in the sport, and there she had her early training. Now, she trains at the Spanish National Training Center (CARD), and is a part of the EGAD Los Cantos Alcorcon in Madrid. Giulia Steingruber (born 24 March 1994) is a retired Swiss artistic gymnast. She is the 2016 Olympic and 2017 World bronze medalist on vault. Additionally she is the 2015 European all-around champion, a four-time European vault champion (2013, 2014, 2016, and 2021) and the 2016 European floor exercise champion.
