Jurong Point ( Chinese:裕廊坊) is a large regional shopping mall in the precinct of Jurong West Central in Jurong West, Singapore. It is next to Boon Lay MRT station and Boon Lay Bus Interchange. It is currently the largest shopping mall in Singapore in terms of number of tenants and the largest in western Singapore. There are more than 400 shops spanning across 4 levels, attracting more than 5 million visitors each month. History Jurong Point first opened its doors in December 1995 with 95 retailers including Courts, Golden Village, NTUC FairPrice, Kopitiam, Old Chang Kee, Harvey Norman (previously SAFE superstore) and Soo Kee Jewellery. Jurong West Central is a subzone of Jurong West, located in the West Region of Singapore. This is the town centre of Jurong West. Transport Roads There are 4 main roads in this subzone – Boon Lay Way, Jalan Boon Lay, Jurong West Avenue 4/2 and Pioneer Road North. John Little was a former chain of department stores in Singapore. Established in 1845, John Little was the oldest department store in Singapore. The John Little chain was acquired and owned by Robinson & Co. Limited in 1955. History In 1842, John Martin Little worked for his uncle Francis S. Martin who started a retail business at Commercial Square (now Raffles Place). In 1845, Francis S. Martin sold his business to Little and Cursetjee Frommurze to form Little, Cursetjee & Co.. Cursetjee Frommurze was a well-known Parsee merchant. On 30 August 1845, Little and Frommurze started their business as auctioneers and commission agents, and offered services in retail as well as auction of properties such as spice plantations and valuable household furniture.
