Junkfuel
''Junkfuel'' is the debut album by the English band Fretblanket, released in 1994. The band supported the album by opening for Oingo Boingo on a North American tour. ''Junkfuels first single was "Twisted". Production The band members were still in their teens when they made ''Junkfuel''. The album was produced by Tim Palmer; some percussion was recorded at Smart Studios, in Madison, Wisconsin. Many of the songs are character studies that empathize with their subjects. Critical reception The ''Chicago Reader'' noted: "Sounding like the Replacements or Soul Asylum but with guitar-techie precision, these very young men—the oldest is 20—with long shiny hair would be a publicist’s dream if their songs were at all distinctive." Fretblanket have had more success in the United States than in their native Britain, which the band put down to the attitude of the British music press. The band has been described as "one of the first British groups to reflect the worldwide influence of Nirvana's ''Nevermind''", although Ride, The Wedding Present, and Swervedriver have also been identified as influences. The band signed to Polygram in 1993 and released their first album, ''Junkfuel'', a year later. Fretblanket had a fairly successful hit in 1997 with the song "Into the Ocean". The video for that song had a short life in regular rotation on MTV the same year, and at the time was the highest-rated video ever on MTV's ''12 Angry Viewers''. The same year saw the release of a second album, ''Home Truths From Abroad''. In 2020, the song "Digging Your Scene" was released as part of the compilation Cattle And Hum. The Descendents are an American punk rock band formed in 1977 in Manhattan Beach, California, by guitarist Frank Navetta, bassist Tony Lombardo and drummer Bill Stevenson. Jawbreaker is an American punk rock band active from 1986 to 1996, and again since 2017. The band is considered to be extremely influential to the 1990s emo and punk genre with their "poetic take on hardcore," as cited by James Monger of ''AllMusic''. ''Trouser Press'' was a rock and roll magazine started in New York in 1974 as a mimeographed fanzine by editor/publisher Ira Robbins, fellow fan of the Who Dave Schulps and Karen Rose under the name "Trans-Oceanic Trouser Press" (a reference to a song by the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band and an acronymic play on the British TV show ''Top of the Pops)''. Soul Asylum
Soul Asylum is an American alternative rock band formed in 1981 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Their 1993 hit "Runaway Train" won the Grammy Award for Best Rock Song. The band was originally called Loud Fast Rules, with a lineup consisting of Dave Pirner, Dan Murphy, Karl Mueller, and Pat Morley. They changed their name to Soul Asylum in 1983. Morley was replaced by Grant Young in 1984. The band recorded three albums with Twin/Tone Records and two with A&M Records, with little commercial success. In 1992, they released the triple-platinum album ''Grave Dancers Union'', featuring "Runaway Train". The band played at the inauguration of President Bill Clinton early the next year. The Replacements (band)
The Replacements were an American rock band formed in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in 1979. Initially a hardcore punk band, they are one of the main pioneers of alternative rock. The band was composed of the guitarist and vocalist Paul Westerberg, guitarist Bob Stinson, bass guitarist Tommy Stinson and drummer Chris Mars for most of its existence. Following several acclaimed albums, including '' Let It Be'' and '' Tim'', Bob Stinson was kicked out of the band in 1986, and Slim Dunlap joined as lead guitarist. Steve Foley replaced Mars in 1990.
