Junipero Serra County Park (sometimes shortened to Junipero Serra Park) is a park in the hills overlooking San Bruno, California, San Bruno and Millbrae, California, east of Interstate 280 in California, Interstate 280 and west of California State Route 82, State Route 82 (El Camino Real). It is administered by San Mateo County, California, San Mateo County as part of its parks system, and was named for Junípero Serra, a priest responsible for establishing several of the Spanish missions in California. History The site was used originally by Native Americans, as demonstrated by the presence of human remains and shell mounds; regular archaeological excavations are conducted there by Stanford University professor Patrick Hunt (archaeologist), Patrick Hunt. Interstate 280 (California)
Interstate 280 (I-280) is a major north–south auxiliary Interstate Highway in the San Francisco Bay Area of Northern California. It runs from I-680 and US Route 101 (US 101) in San Jose to King and 5th streets in San Francisco, running just to the west of the larger cities of San Francisco Peninsula for most of its route. Rancho Buri Buri
Rancho Buri Buri (also called Sánchez Rancho) was a Mexican land grant in present-day San Mateo County, California, given in 1835 by Governor José Castro to José Antonio Sánchez. The name derives from the Urebure village of the Ramaytush speaking Yelamu tribe of Ohlone people who were settled by the banks of San Bruno Creek. Rancho Buri Buri extended between the north line of South San Francisco and the middle of Burlingame, and from the San Francisco Bay to the top of the Peninsula ridge and included present-day Lomita Park, Millbrae, South San Francisco, San Bruno, and the northern part of Burlingame. San Bruno Creek
San Bruno Creek (Spanish for: "St. Brun") is an intermittent stream that rises on the eastern slopes of the Northern Santa Cruz Mountains in San Mateo County, California, US. The headwaters descend a relatively steep canyon east of Skyline Boulevard in a tortuous course. Comparison of topographic maps from 1896 and 1939 illustrates the extreme modification in the lower reaches due to urban development from the rapidly expanding population. The San Bruno Creek watershed was originally settled by a tribe of the Ohlone, and later this locale was part of the Spanish missions' landholdings. Serra Fault
The Serra Fault is the northernmost fault in a zone of northwest-striking range front thrust faults adjacent to and northeast of the San Francisco Peninsula segment of the San Andreas Fault, in eastern San Mateo County, California.(Kennedy, 2005). The Serra Fault is positioned approximately northeast of the San Andreas Fault; moreover the Serra Fault extends for more than from the town of Hillsborough to a point near Daly City. San Andreas Fault
The San Andreas Fault is a continental Fault (geology)#Strike-slip faults, right-lateral strike-slip transform fault that extends roughly through the U.S. state of California. It forms part of the tectonics, tectonic boundary between the Pacific plate and the North American plate. Franciscan Complex
The Franciscan Complex or Franciscan Assemblage is a geology, geologic term for a late Mesozoic terrane of heterogeneous rock (geology), rocks found throughout the California Coast Ranges, and particularly on the San Francisco Peninsula. It was named by geologist Andrew Lawson, who also named the San Andreas Fault that defines the western extent of the assemblage. The Franciscan Complex is dominated by greywacke sandstones, shales and Conglomerate (geology), conglomerates which have experienced low-grade metamorphism. Other important lithologies include chert, basalt, limestone, serpentinite, and high-pressure, low-temperature metabasites (blueschists and eclogites) and meta-limestones.
