Junior Golf
Junior golf refers to the game of golf being played by boys and girls who have not finished secondary school or reached the age of 19, whichever comes first. More specifically, any person falling under the above definition who has played at least one round of golf in a given year is a junior golfer. Competitive junior golfers play in high level competitions. The American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) is a "501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the overall growth and development of young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf." Western Junior
The Western Junior is the oldest national junior golf tournament in the United States. It was founded in 1914 and is organized by the Western Golf Association. It is played at a different course each year, primarily in the Midwestern United States, midwest. From 1914 to 1998, it was played with stroke play qualifying followed by a match play championship. Since 1999, it has been a 72-hole stroke play tournament. The championship was first played in 1914 at Chicago Golf Club in Wheaton, Illinois and was won by Charles Grimes.
