Jungermanniales Genera
Jungermanniales is the largest order of liverworts. They are distinctive among the liverworts for having thin leaf-like flaps on either side of the stem. Most other liverworts are thalloid, with no leaves. Due to their dorsiventral organization and scale-like, overlapping leaves, the Jungermanniales are sometimes called "scale-mosses". The Permian ( ) is a geologic period and System (stratigraphy), stratigraphic system which spans 47 million years, from the end of the Carboniferous Period million years ago (Mya), to the beginning of the Triassic Period 251.902 Mya. Arnelliaceae is a monotypic family of liverworts belonging to the order Jungermanniales. The family only contains a single genus, ''Arnellia'', which has only one known species, ''Arnellia fennica'' . which is known as the tundra liverwort. It is only found in the northern hemisphere of the world. ''Jungermanniaceae'' is the namesake family of leafy liverworts. It is a group of small plants that are widely distributed. Several genera formerly included within the family are now classified in the Myliaceae or Solenostomataceae. Most of the species of this family are found in temperate regions. The main characteristics of the family: * The leaves are succubous. * The leaves are unlobed and never decurrent along the stem. * Perianth is terminal on the leading shoot. * Rhizoids are scattered along the stem. ''Jackiella'' is a genus of liverworts in the order Jungermanniales. It is the only genus in the monotypic family Jackiellaceae. The genus name of ''Jackiella'' is in honour of Joseph (Josef) Bernard Jack (1818-1901), who was a German apothecary and botanist (Cryptogam and Bryophytes). The genus was circumscribed by Viktor Felix Schiffner in 1900. Species of the genus are mainly found in eastern Asia and Australia. ''Endogemma'' is a monotypic genus of liverworts belonging to the family Endogemmataceae and subclass of Jungermanniineae.Stotler, R.E. and B. Crandall-Stotler. 2017. A synopsis of the liverwort flora of North America north of Mexico. Ann. Missouri Bot. Gard. 102: 574-709. The genera ''Endogemma'' and fellow ''Jungermanniineae'' subclass genus '' Solenostoma'' was also accepted by Borovichev 2014, and Konstantinova & Lapshina 2014. The only known species is ''Endogemma caespiticia'' .
