Capital City Fire/Rescue (CCFR) provides fire suppression and emergency medical services to the city of Juneau, Alaska, United States. With service to Juneau, CCFR provides emergency services to the second most populous city in Alaska after Anchorage, and the fourth largest metropolitan area behind Anchorage, the Fairbanks North Star Borough, and the Matanuska-Susitna Borough. Areas served by CCFR include Douglas Island, Lemon Creek, the Mendenhall Valley, Juneau International Airport, Thane, University of Alaska Southeast and local areas of the Tongass National Forest. History The first fire agency in the Juneau area was founded in 1899 as the Juneau Volunteer Fire Department, consisting of a single, hand-powered hose cart. Juneau Mountain Rescue (JMR) is a mountain search and rescue agency, located in Juneau, Alaska, United States. JMR is a member of the Alaska Search and Rescue Association, and facilitates rescues involving wilderness terrain, rope rescues on rock faces, ice and snow fields, glaciers, and during avalanches, medical evacuations, missing persons cases, aircraft crashes and other disasters. The Juneau Police Department (JPD) is a law enforcement agency which serves Juneau, Alaska. The department consists of two divisions: Administrative Support Services and Operations. Within these divisions there are five units: Patrol, Investigations, Community Service, Records and Dispatch. The department includes specialists in SWAT, bomb disposal and hostage negotiation. Bartlett Regional Hospital (BRH) is a hospital serving Juneau, Alaska, the capital city of Alaska and the largest city in Southeast Alaska. The hospital is owned by the City and Borough of Juneau. The ''Juneau Empire'' is a newspaper in Juneau, Alaska, United States. It was founded on November 2, 1912, as the ''Alaska Daily Empire''. In 1969 Morris Communications bought the newspaper. Mark Bryan was appointed publisher in 2009, but left the paper in 2013. In June of that year, Rustan Burton was named the new publisher and continues to run the paper today.
