June Tompkins Benson
Mildred June Benson (née Tomkins), commonly known as June Benson (1915–1981), was the first woman to serve as mayor in the American State of Oklahoma when elected mayor of Norman, Oklahoma, Norman in 1957 by city commissioners. Benson was inducted into the Oklahoma Women's Hall of Fame in 1985, thanks also to the significant contributions she made on voting rights and environmental protection. Early life and education Mildred June Tompkins was born on November 6, 1915, in Granite, Oklahoma, the daughter of the Oklahoma legislator Elmer O. Tompkins and his wife, Bessie Stovall. She was brought up in McAlester, Oklahoma, McAlester where she attended public schools before studying history and government at the University of Oklahoma, graduating in 1947. Jessie Thatcher Bost
Jessie Olive Thatcher Bost (December 16, 1875 – February 14, 1963) was the first female graduate of Oklahoma State University. Bost was born in Guthrie Center, Iowa, Her family moved to Stillwater in 1891, then part of Oklahoma Territory, and she enrolled in a university, then known as Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical (A&M) College, when it opened later that year. She graduated in 1897, alongside two male students in the university's second graduating class. After graduation, Bost worked as a public school teacher in Stillwater. Bost remained involved with the university and became the first president of its Alumni Association in 1902 and the Half-Century Club in 1954. The university named its first female dormitory "Jessie Thatcher Hall for Bost when it opened in 1925. Marriage and family Jessie married Henry A. Bost, a fellow student, on July 16, 1902. Alma Wilson
Alma Dorothy Bell Wilson (May 25, 1917 – July 27, 1999) was an Oklahoma attorney who was appointed as the second female district judge in the state of Oklahoma in 1975. In 1982, she was elevated as the first woman to serve on the Oklahoma Supreme Court and between 1995 and 1997 was the first woman chief justice. Wilson was honored by many awards in her lifetime including induction into the Oklahoma Women's Hall of Fame, the Oklahoma Hall of Fame and was named Appellate Judge of the Year in both 1986 and 1989. Early life Alma Bell and her twin sister Wilma were born on May 25, 1917, in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma to Anna and William R. Bell.
