June 2025 Gaza Freedom Flotilla
A flotilla was organized in June 2025 by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC) attempting to break the Israeli blockade of the Gaza Strip and deliver aid in response to the famine and humanitarian crisis in Gaza, which the crew members have described as a genocide. The flotilla, which was led by the UK-flagged vessel ''Madleen'', departed from Catania, Sicily, on 1 June 2025. In the early hours of 9 June, Israeli forces intercepted, boarded, and seized the ''Madleen'' in international waters, preventing it from reaching the Gaza Strip, and transported the twelve people onboard to detention in Israel. The people onboard included Swedish activist Greta Thunberg and French MEP Rima Hassan. The detained crew members were later deported from Israel. Israeli Blockade Of The Gaza Strip (2023–present)
On 9 October 2023, Israel intensified its blockade of the Gaza Strip when it announced a "total blockade", blocking the entry of food, water, medicine, fuel and electricity after the October 7 Hamas-led attack on Israel and the ensuing Gaza war. The blockade has been credited with contributing significantly to the Gaza genocide. Israel has conditioned its lifting of the blockade with the return of the hostages abducted by Hamas, which has been criticized as collective punishment and an apparent war crime. May 2025 Drone Attack On Gaza Freedom Flotilla
In the early morning on 2May 2025, a vessel organized by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, carrying 16 to 30 human rights activists and humanitarian aid destined for the Gaza Strip, was attacked by drones in international waters off the coast of Malta. The incident occurred approximately from Malta, outside its territorial waters. There is no independent confirmation of the nature of the incident, although Cyprus responded by dispatching a rescue boat, and the Armed Forces of Malta (AFM) sent a patrol boat to assist with extinguishing the fire. Maltese authorities offered assistance, but insisted on inspecting the vessel first. The captain declined the offer. Israeli Blockade Of Aid Delivery To The Gaza Strip
Israeli demonstrators have blocked aid delivery to the Gaza Strip since January 24, 2024. The demonstrators prevented the passage of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip at the Kerem Shalom crossing, at the Nitzana crossing, at the Port of Ashdod, and on the roads that aid trucks traveled on. The demonstrations were initiated by the " Tsav 9", "Warrior Mothers", and "Forum Tikva" groups to protest the transfer of supplies to the Gaza Strip as well as to prevent the actual entry of the supply trucks, with the intention of putting pressure on Hamas to release the hostages who were kidnapped during the 2023 Hamas-led attack on Israel. Freedom Flotilla III
Freedom Flotilla III (#FF3) was a flotilla that planned to break the blockade of the Gaza Strip by Israel by sailing to Gaza. It started from Sweden on 10 May 2015 and stopped in several European cities along the way to Gaza. It started officially from Athens, Greece on 25 June 2015. Few details were released in advance. On 29 June 2015 the Swedish-flagged vessel "Marianne" was intercepted by the Israeli navy in international waters about 100 nautical miles from the Palestinian coast of Gaza. The Israeli military reported that no force was needed during the operation. However, eye-witness video published by Israeli Channel 2 TV shows people being tasered by IDF commandos. The ''Marianne'' was boarded by Israeli forces and taken to the port of Ashdod, while the rest of the ships turned back. Freedom Flotilla II
"Freedom Flotilla II – Stay Human" was a flotilla that planned to break the maritime blockade of the Gaza Strip by Israel by sailing to Gaza on 5 July 2011. Ultimately, the sailing did not take place. The flotilla was organized by a coalition of 22 NGOs. Its name refers to the May 2010 Gaza Freedom Flotilla. Their stated goal was to end the blockade of Gaza "completely and permanently". Initially, 10 ships, with 1,000 activists were set to sail for Gaza, but by 28 June 2011, the number of expected participants had decreased to fewer than 300, plus a few dozen journalists, and by 7 July all but a few dozen activists had returned home.
