Juncker–Asselborn I Government
The first Juncker–Asselborn Government was the government of Luxembourg between 31 July 2004 and 23 July 2009. It was led by, and named after, Prime Minister of Luxembourg, Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker and Deputy Prime Minister of Luxembourg, Deputy Prime Minister Jean Asselborn. It represented a coalition between Juncker's Christian Social People's Party (CSV) and Asselborn's Luxembourg Socialist Workers' Party (LSAP), after these had been elected the largest and second-largest parties respectively in the legislature, in the 2004 Luxembourg general election, general election of 2004. Previously, the CSV had been governing in coalition with the liberal Democratic Party (Luxembourg), Democratic Party. The prime minister of Luxembourg (; ; ) is the head of government of Luxembourg. The prime minister leads the executive branch, chairs the Cabinet and appoints its ministers. Since 1989, the title of ''Prime minister, Prime Minister'' has been an official one, although the head of the government had been unofficially known by that name for some time. Between 1857 and 1989, the prime minister was styled the ''President of the Government'', with the exception of the 25-day premiership of Mathias Mongenast.Thewes (2003), p. 65 Before 1857, the prime minister was the ''President of the Council of Ministers, President of the Council''.
