Jumping Jack Frost
Nigel Thompson (born 29 May 1967), better known as Jumpin Jack Frost, is a British Jungle music, jungle and drum and bass Disc jockey, DJ and record producer. Biography Frost was born in Brixton, London and, after a troubled youth, started to discover music through local Sound system (Jamaican), sound system 'dances' and then nights such as Soul II Soul at the Africa Centre, London, Africa Centre. He first started DJing at 18, playing funk and hip hop before the acid house scene arrived and he played at the ''Carwash'' nights in the late 1980s with Grooverider, Bryan Gee, and Fabio (DJ), Fabio. As a resident at The Fridge (nightclub), The Fridge in Brixton, he played alongside Paul 'Trouble' Anderson and Evil Eddie Richards. He also hosted a show on the Brixton-based pirate radio station Passion FM which later became Lightning FM. Brixton
Brixton is an area of South London, part of the London Borough of Lambeth, England. The area is identified in the London Plan as one of 35 major centres in Greater London. Brixton experienced a rapid rise in population during the 19th century as communications with central London improved. The Fridge (nightclub)
The Fridge was a nightclub in the Brixton area of South London, England, founded, in 1981, by Andrew Czezowski and Susan Carrington, who had run the Roxy during punk music's heyday in 1977. The Fridge closed on 17 March 2010 and has no link with Electric Brixton which opened in September 2011 and now occupies the building. History The Fridge started in 1981, in a small club at 390 Brixton Rd, and later, in 1982, above Iceland in Brixton Road with a radical decor that included beat-up ice boxes and artificial dead cats hanging from its ceiling. Early guest DJs included Keith Barker-Main, later a lifestyle journalist and social commentator. Mi-Soul
Mi-Soul, is a radio station on DAB and online playing soul, R&B, house and other genres including hip-hop, reggae and DnB. Mi-Soul was founded by Gordon Mac (formerly Kiss FM and Colourful Radio), with long-time business partner Martin Strivens. Having left Colourful in June 2011, Mac launched Mi-Soul as an internet radio station in July 2012. It commenced broadcasting on the Switch London 2 digital radio network on 27 June 2015. Centreforce
Centreforce also known as 88.3 Centreforce and Centreforce Radio is a former pirate radio station, now legally broadcasting to London, North West England and North Wales on DAB radio. It was instrumental during the Second Summer of Love period of acid house and rave music culture in the UK. The station is based in Waltham Abbey, Essex. Early history Centreforce first broadcast on 8 May 1989, from London Borough of Hackney then moved to Carpenters Road Stratford, Newham, East London on the frequency of 88.3 FM. In its short time on air (it ceased broadcasting little over a year later around June 1990), it became the "first seven day rave station", and a pivotal part of the scene, promoting all of the big M25 raves of the time such as Genesis, Energy, Sunrise, and Biology. Kiss is a British digital radio station owned and operated by Bauer Media Audio UK as part of the Kiss Network. Kiss broadcasts nationally to the UK via DAB digital radio, as well as on Bauer's Rayo platform. The station started in 1985 as a pirate radio station, Kiss FM, before becoming the UK's first legal black and dance music specialist radio station in 1990 as Kiss 100, broadcasting in London on 100.0 FM. Kiss became a digital-only station in 2024 when its FM frequencies in London and Bristol were taken over by Hits Radio. FFRR Records
FFRR Records (sometimes credited as Full Frequency Range Recordings) is a dance music label founded as a subsidiary of London Records in 1986, with A&R run by the British DJ Pete Tong. Originally a part of London Records' label roster, FFRR is currently a sublabel of Parlophone, a division of Warner Music Group. Its activities were mostly halted in the early 2000s, until the label was revived in 2011. Its catalog was sold off in 2017, but the label was revived a second time in 2021, this time with a new identity. The original incarnation of FFRR was founded in 1986, and also had two subsidiaries: Double F Double R Records and Ffrreedom Records. Krust
Kirk Thompson (born 26 July 1968), better known by his stage name Krust, is an English drum and bass producer, DJ and co-owner of the Full Cycle record label. Beyond his roles in the music industry, Thompson is also responsible for two businesses: creative consultancy Disruptive Patterns and Amma Life, a CBD oil company he co-owns with Sophia Ali. He is regarded as one of drum & bass and jungle's founders and pioneers and noted for his unique musical style. Krust has released over 100 tracks and three albums on labels such as Full Cycle, Talkin' Loud and V Recordings. DJ Die
Daniel Robert Kausman (born 13 October 1972), better known by his stage name DJ Die, is an English DJ and music producer. He was a founder of drum and bass label Full Cycle Recordings and a member of Roni Size & Reprazent (1997 Mercury Prize winners) and Breakbeat Era. Kausman spent his formative years in Barnstaple before moving to Bristol in 1985 as a teenager. An early interest in house and hardcore led to a musical partnership with friend Jody Wisternoff (who later formed Way Out West with Nick Warren). Die DJ'd for a brief period with Circus Warp – a free party sound system. Recording together under the aliases of Tru Funk and Sub Love on Three Stripe Records, they created hardcore staples like "4am" and made numerous DJing appearances at early Universe raves. Ryan Owen Granville Williams (born 29 October 1969), better known by his stage name Roni Size, is an English DJ and record producer. He came to prominence in 1997 as the founder and frontman of Roni Size & Reprazent, a drum and bass collective. That year they won the Mercury Prize for their debut studio album ''New Forms''. The Edge (club)
The Eclipse (later The Edge) was a nightclub in Coventry, England, and the first legal all-night club in the UK. The Eclipse was a former Granada Bingo Hall, when local entrepreneurs Stuart Reid and Barry Edwards would put on the first allnighter in October 1990. The 1,600 capacity club was split over three floors. The resident DJs were Mick Park and Mick Wilson (aka Parks & Wilson), The opening night line-up included: Evil Eddie Richards, Fabio, Sasha, and MC Tunes, who moaned about the sound system and walked off stage saying, "Get the sound sorted out, we'll be back soon", but he didn't return. It is said that the venue gave The Prodigy one of their first gigs for a fee of £60. The venue would also host nights from promoters such as ''Dance Planet'' and ''Amnesia House''. Sanctuary Music Arena
The Sanctuary Music Arena was a 22,000 sq ft, 3,500 capacity music venue in Denbigh North, Milton Keynes in the UK, and most well known for its connection to the rave scene. Origins The site was originally intended for industrial use, as part of the wider Bletchley plan in the 1950s that saw the development of the adjacent Denbigh West industrial area. Designed in 1989 by Dryden-Johnson Architects, the unit was built speculatively in 1990 to host Indoor Cricket but failed to find a tenant for that purpose. It was first used as a music venue by 'ESP Promotions' to host their inaugural ''Dreamscape'' raves from December 1991, after ESP Promotions owner (the late Murray Beetson) had reached an agreement with the landlord for short-term event hire.
