Jumping Hill (foaled 1952 in California) was an American Thoroughbred racehorse bred by George Pope Jr. at his El Peco Ranch in Madera and successfully raced by him in England and the United States. Background Hillary (foaled 1952) was the sire of Jumping Hill. He stood for George Pope Jr. at his El Peco Ranch and who in 1965 was considered to be the number two stallion in the United States. Hillary was a son of Rex Ellsworth's very good stallion Khaled who sired a number of top level stakes winners including U.S. Racing Hall of Fame inductee Swaps. Jumping Hill was out of the mare Frequently, a daughter of George Pope Jr.'s 1962 Kentucky Derby winner Decidedly. Frequently's dam was Timepiece whose sire was Hall of Fame inductee Eight Thirty. Khaled (horse)
Khaled (1943–1968) was a British Thoroughbred racehorse best known as a sire in the United States. Bred and raced in England by the Aga Khan III, Khaled was sired by Hyperion, the 1933 Epsom Derby and St. Leger Stakes winner and a six-time Leading sire in Great Britain & Ireland. Hyperion was a son of 1918 English Triple Crown champion Gainsborough. Khaled was out of the mare Eclair, and his damsire, Ethnarch, was a son of The Tetrarch. The United Kingdom's National Horseracing Museum called The Tetrarch a "phenomenon" and reported that he was voted Britain's two-year-old of his century. Lester Piggott
Lester Keith Piggott (5 November 1935 – 29 May 2022) was an English professional jockey and trainer. With 4,493 career flat racing wins in Britain, including a record nine Epsom Derby victories, he is widely regarded as one of the greatest flat racing jockeys of all time and the originator of a much imitated style. Popularly called "The Long Fellow", he was known for his competitive personality, restricting his weight and, on occasion, not sparing the whip, such as in the 1972 Derby. Eight Thirty (March 27, 1936 – April 7, 1965) was an American Hall of Fame Thoroughbred racehorse. He was owned by George D. Widener, Jr. and bred by his Erdenheim Farm. Widener is one of only five people ever named an Exemplar of Racing. Eight Thirty was a descendant of Fair Play, who had been purchased from the estate of August Belmont, Jr. by Widener's uncle, Joseph E. Widener. Racing at age two in 1938, Eight Thirty won two important graded stakes races but was overshadowed by William Ziegler Jr.'s Champion 2-Yr-Old Colt El Chico.
