''Jumper'' is a 2008 American science fiction action film loosely based on Steven Gould's 1992 novel of the same name. Directed by Doug Liman, the film stars Hayden Christensen as a young man capable of teleporting, as he is pursued by a secret society intent on killing him. Jamie Bell, Rachel Bilson, Max Thieriot, AnnaSophia Robb, Diane Lane, Michael Rooker, and Samuel L. Jackson also star. The script went through a rewrite prior to filming, and the roles for the main characters were changed during production. Filmed in 20 cities and 14 countries from 2007 to 2008 and released on February 14, 2008, the film grossed $225 million worldwide and received generally negative reviews from critics, mostly because of the many changes to Gould's novel, rushed plot, and anticlimactic ending. This is a list of characters from the ''Wild Cards'' book series. Astronomer The Astronomer first appeared in the short story "Pennies from Hell" by Lewis Shiner in ''Aces High (book), Wild Cards II: Aces High'', though his presence was implied in "The Long, Dark Night of Fortunato" in the first volume of the series. He is the leader of a cult, known as the Egyptian Freemasons, that consists mainly of superhuman Ace (Wild Cards), Aces and deformed Joker (Wild Cards), Jokers. The Astronomer planned to conquer the world in the aftermath of an invasion by fungoid aliens called the Swarm. ''Jumper'' is a 1991 American gay pornographic film directed by Chi Chi LaRue and starring Ryan Yeager as the titular character. Written by Stan Ward (stage name Stan Mitchell), the film was originally released by HIS Video. In the film, an angel, Jumper, is sent to Earth to spend five days seducing the following men in West Hollywood, California in order to influence their lives: an aspiring model, a straight-identified man, a nerd, and a Hollywood producer. During the journey, Jumper uses his angelic powers on a bickering couple to help them make up. The song was written and produced by frontman Stephan Jenkins, with additional production by Eric Valentine. It explores and satirises the field of academic philosophy by likening it to a less-than-skilful competitive gymnastics display. ''Jumpers'' raises questions such as "What do we know?" and "Where do values come from?" It is set in an alternative reality in which some British astronauts have landed on the Moon and "Radical Liberals" (read pragmatists and relativists) have taken over the British government (the play seems to suggest that pragmatists and relativists would be immoral since Archie says that murder is not wrong, merely "antisocial"). Betty Mae Tiger Jumper, also known as ''Potackee'' (April 27, 1923 – January 14, 2011) (Seminole), was the first and so far the only female chairperson of the Seminole Tribe of Florida. A nurse, she co-founded the tribe's first newspaper in 1956, the ''Seminole News'', later replaced by ''The Seminole Tribune,'' for which she served as editor, winning a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Native American Journalists Association. In 2001 she published her memoir, entitled ''A Seminole Legend.'' Tiger was the first Florida Seminole to learn to read and write English, and the first to graduate from high school and a nursing program. William Jumper
Sir William Jumper ( – 12 March 1715) was an officer of the Royal Navy. He rose to the rank of captain after service in the Nine Years' War and the War of the Spanish Succession. He is known for being one of the first to step onto land during the Capture of Gibraltar in 1704. Jumper's Bastion in Gibraltar was named after him. Life Jumper was said for many years to have been born in Bandon, County Cork. His date of birth is unknown, but he was baptised on 8 January 1660 as the second son of William and Elizabeth Jumper of Weybridge in Surrey. The novel was published in mass market paperback in October 1993 and re‑released in February 2008 to coincide with the release of the film adaptation. It tells the story of David, a teenager who escapes an abusive household using his ability to teleport. As he tries to make his way in the world, he searches for his mother (who left when he was a child), develops a relationship with a woman from whom he keeps his ability secret, and is eventually brought into conflict with several antagonists. John Jumper (Seminole Chief)
John Jumper (c.1820 – September 21, 1896) or Heneha Mekko, was Principal Chief of the Seminole Nation from 1849 to 1865, and again from 1882 to 1885. He was also a Baptist pastor. Jumper led those Seminole who supported the Confederacy, signing a treaty with the new government in the hope of gaining an Indian state if they were successful. He served as a lieutenant colonel in the Confederate Army Seminole Mounted Volunteers. First chieftainship Jumper fought against the United States in the Second Seminole War (1835 -1842), and was sent to Indian Territory after his capture.
