Julsundet
Julsundet is a long strait connecting the Norwegian Sea to the Romsdalsfjorden. The strait is located about west of the town of Molde in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. The strait runs through Aukra Municipality, Hustadvika Municipality, and Molde Municipality. The strait flows north–south from the village of Bud (in Hustadvika Municipality) to Julneset (in Molde Municipality). It flows between the Romsdal Peninsula (on the east side) and the islands of Otrøya and Gossa (on the west side). The Frænfjorden empties into the Julsundet strait at the small island of Vågøya. The strait is up to deep and it is wide. It has a significant tidal current and is exposed to strong northerly winds. Julsundet was heavily fortified by the Germans during World War II. Romsdalsfjorden
or is the ninth-longest fjord in Norway. The long fjord is located in the Romsdal district of Møre og Romsdal county. It flows through the municipalities of Molde, Haram, Vestnes, and Rauma. The deepest point in the fjord is just southwest of the town of Molde, where it is deep. The fjord is a threshold-fjord, as it is separated from the ocean by a deep shallower areas at the mouth. Several islands and skerries also shelter the wide central fjord from the Atlantic. The western inlet of the fjord is generally considered to be between the island of Dryna (in Molde Municipality) and the village of Brattvåg (in Haram Municipality). A second inlet is to the north, through the Julsundet strait, bound by the island of Otrøya to the west and Molde Municipality to the east. Otrøya
Otrøya is the largest island in Molde Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. The island sits at the entrance to Romsdalsfjord, west of the island of Midøya and east of the mainland Romsdal peninsula. The highest point on the island is the mountain ''Oppstadhornet'' at above sea level. The main settlement is the village of Midsund on the west end of the island. Other settlements include Uglvik and Raknes on the north side of the island and Nord-Heggdal on the southeast side of the island. The Church of Norway has two churches on the island: Otrøy Church and Nord-Heggdal Chapel. The Midsund Bridge connects Otrøya to the island of Midøya to the west. Frænfjorden
Frænfjorden is a fjord in Hustadvika Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. The approximately long fjord flows from the village of Malme in the east to the Julsundet strait near the island of Gossa. The villages of Malme, Sylte, Elnesvågen, Aureosen, and Tornes are all located along the shores of the fjord. There are many small islands scattered throughout the fjord, including the island of Vågøya, where Vågøy Church is located. Other islands include Forøyna, Svinøya, and Bøyna. Gossa (island)
Gossa is an island in Aukra Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. The island encompasses most of the municipality and has a ferry connection from the village of Aukrasanden across the Julsundet strait to the village of Hollingen on the mainland. About 80% of the municipal population (about 2,500 people) is located on the island. The small island of Rindarøya lies just off the northwestern shore of Gossa. The two islands are connected by a bridge. The island is flat and swampy, but it is well cultivated by farmland wherever possible. There are also some planted forests. The highest point on the island is the tall ''Jærmannburet''. Tides are the rise and fall of sea levels caused by the combined effects of the gravitational forces exerted by the Moon (and to a much lesser extent, the Sun) and are also caused by the Earth and Moon orbiting one another.
