Julius Kuperjanov Society
Julius Kuperjanov VR I/2, VR II/2 and VR II/3 ( – 2 February 1919) was an Estonian military officer who was well-known in Estonia for being one of the Liberators of Tartu during the War of Independence and commander of the Tartumaa Partisan Battalion (renamed after him posthumously). Life Early life Kuperjanov was born on 11 October 1894 to Taniel and Liisi Kuperjanov (née Reben); a family of Estonian immigrants living in Pskov, Russia. Because his parents emigrated to Russia for work, they acquired a russified form of their family name (original Kupper). After returning to Estonia, they preserved this name. In 1904, his family returned to Estonia and resided in Tartu county. After five years of studies at the 2-class ministry school in Sipel Vana-Kuuste in Kambja municipality, Kuperjanov entered the in 1910. Opochetsky District
Opochetsky District (russian: Опо́чецкий райо́н) is an administrativeLaw #833-oz and municipalLaw #420-oz district (raion), one of the twenty-four in Pskov Oblast, Russia. It is located in the southwest of the oblast and borders with Pushkinogorsky District in the north, Novorzhevsky District in the northeast, Bezhanitsky District in the east, Pustoshkinsky District in the southeast, Sebezhsky District in the south, and with Krasnogorodsky District in the west. The area of the district is . Its administrative center is the town of Opochka. Population: 23,973 ( 2002 Census); The population of Opochka accounts for 62.1% of the district's total population. Geography The whole of the district lies in the basin of the Velikaya River, and, consequently, of the Narva River. Cross Of Liberty (Estonia)
The Cross of Liberty () was a medal established by then Prime Minister of Estonia, Konstantin Päts, on 24 February 1919 to honor people for their services during the Estonian War of Independence and conferred in three grades, each in three classes. Grade I was for military leadership, Grade II for personal courage, and Grade III for civilian service. Grade and class is attached to the name of recipient in the form of post-nominal letters. The 1st class of II grade was never conferred. Although still mentioned in the list of Estonian state decorations by the president of the republic, bestowal of the Cross of Liberty was terminated on 19 June 1925. The last surviving recipient of the Cross of Liberty was Karl Jaanus VR II/3, who died on 6 October 2000.
