Juliettes Literatursalon
Juliette's Literature Salon was a bookshop in Berlin, Germany, founded by author and performance artist Hartmut Fischer. In addition to the bookshop, it included a publishing house and an attached gallery. Between 1997 and 2003, the bookshop hosted events and served as a meeting place for creative artists and culture aficionados. The salon owes its name to the character of the same name in the novel ''Juliette'' by the Marquis de Sade, the Enlightenment ideas of Voltaire, and the Berlin salon hosts Rahel Varnhagen and Henriette Herz. Background The salon was preceded by Juliette's Literary Cafe in Tübingen, which was founded in 1987 by Fischer and Ekkehart Opitz. Fischer organized numerous literary performances and readings with Yoko Tawada, Claudia Gehrke, Charlotte von Mahlsdorf, Erich Maas, Peter Wawerzinek and others. Katharina Franck
Katharina Franck (born July 28, 1963) is a German singer, songwriter, and musician. She first achieved fame as singer, songwriter, and guitarist of pop rock band the Rainbirds in the late 1980s. Thea Dorn
Thea Dorn (pseudonym; Christiane Scherer, born 23 July 1970 in Offenbach am Main) is a German writer of crime fiction and TV host. She lives and works in Berlin. Born in Offenbach am Main, Dorn was initially trained as a singer, and later studied philosophy and theatrical sciences in Frankfurt and Berlin. She graduated (''Magistra'') in philosophy with a work on self-deception. She worked as scientific assistant at the Free University of Berlin, then as dramaturge and writer at the Staatstheater Hannover. Lauren Amber Newton (born 16 November 1952) is an avant-garde jazz and Contemporary classical music, contemporary classical singer and founding member of the Vienna Art Orchestra. Biography Newton earned a degree in music at the University of Oregon. In 1974 she moved to Europe and continued her music studies with Sylvia Geszty at the State University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart. Thomas Brasch (19 February 1945 – 3 November 2001) was a British and German author, poet and film director. Life Born in Westow, Yorkshire, England, Thomas Brasch was the son of German Jewish Communist émigré parents. In 1947, the family returned to East Germany. Brasch attended school in Cottbus. Angela Winkler (born 22 January 1944) is a German actress. Life and career Born in Templin, Winkler trained to be a medical technologist in Stuttgart. Interested in theater, she went to Munich, where she took acting classes with Ernst Fritz Fürbringer. In 1967, she had her first role at the theater in Kassel. Ben Becker (born 19 December 1964) is a German film, theatre and voice actor. Biography Becker was born in Bremen, the son of actress Monika Hansen and actor Rolf Becker. Durs Grünbein (born 1962) is a German poet and essayist. Life and career Durs Grünbein was born in Dresden in 1962 and grew up there.
